Key Performance Indicators
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are used to evaluate the performance of Walmart regarding various dimensions. The indicators assist the company in growing and engaging in successful decision-making. Four key performance indicators for Walmart are given below:
KPIs for Individual Associates
Walmart uses performance-based recognition. The recognitions are used to determine benefits, positions, and statuses that are accorded to employees. According to Pandey et al. (2021), 31% of Walmart’s individual associates’ work-life balance is the most important aspect that the company should consider apart from salary, while 28% consider incentives and benefits to be important metrics to measure recognition.
KPIs for Departments Within The Store/Business
Employee retention within the store business is a good KPI utilized by Walmart. Essentially, employee retention is measured by the departmental turnover rate. Departments with the lowest turnover rates are considered to be performing better compared the counterparts with high turnover rates. The company conducts departmental appraisals every financial period to assess this key performance indicator.
KPIs for the Individual Stores/Business
The KPIs for stores and businesses include inventory turnover and foot and digital traffic. Notably, the inventory turnover reflects the number of times inventory is sold and replaced in Walmart’s stores. On the other hand, foot traffic identifies the number of customers that visit the physical stores, while digital traffic measures the number of customers visiting the company’s digital stores. Essentially, an increase in these KPIs indicates improved performance.
KPIs for the Overall Walmart Organization
The net profit margin and return on investment are KPIs that measure the overall organization’s performance. The net profit margin assesses the company’s profitability concerning sales, while the return on investment evaluates the company’s performance concerning investments. An increase in the metrics will indicate an improved performance.
