Job Training – In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
The area of study that is most relevant to my area of practice is job training. As an individual undertaking an internship in In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), I find job training relevant because professionals in this area handle people’s health. Job training is relevant because it improves the quality of healthcare. When done regularly, caregivers remain up-to-date with the changes in the field, the best practices, and safety protocols (Newbould et al., 2022). Also, training ensures that professionals provide older people and people with disabilities with the highest quality of care. Training is also important because it equips professionals with the necessary skills to handle complex needs within healthcare, such as medical equipment and responding to emergencies.
Moreover, job training improves the performance of healthcare givers. Subsequently, when healthcare experts perform excellently, burnout will reduce significantly. Training also allows professionals to remind themselves of the existing health safety standards while learning new health safety standards and other compliance policies (Shiri et al., 2023). The more professionals undergo job training, the more they improve their skills and thus increase their confidence. Job training and support for caregivers can also go a long way to improve communication skills. This observation is supported by the fact that healthcare professionals learn soft skills like empathy and communication, which are necessary when building trust with patients through training. Communication skills are important, especially when working with diverse communities.
Job training and support are crucial as they ensure that caregivers in IHSS can meet the dynamic needs of patients and remain compliant with the guidelines. Also, this area of research is relevant since it deals with the continued improvement of healthcare staff. The healthcare field is constantly changing because of new illnesses and increased demand for better healthcare services (Ortega & Cappello, 2017). The book by Ortega and Cappello (2017) explains the importance of root cause analysis, which aligns with what occurs during job training, where the root cause of limitations is identified and adjusted. Therefore, researching in this area is another way of evaluating healthcare professionals’ quality of service provision.
