Issues Concerning Research Publishing

Issues Concerning Research Publishing

According to Brielmaier (2008), selecting the right publisher dictates the number of people who get access to the research. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a good publishing platform. Researchers also need to select publishers who can publish their work within the shortest time at a reasonable cost. Privacy is also a significant concern when publishing research because it requires sharing one’s research with a third party. This creates the risk of the third party sharing the researcher’s work with another party without authorization.

One of my questions to course colleagues about publishing research is their criteria to determine whether a publisher is genuine. Many publishers on the internet have the same offers and affordable rates, but I get a hard time settling on one because I am not sure whether they are genuine. I would also like to ask my colleagues whether their publishers have asked them to send any deposit to get their work reviewed before publishing and how they are assured that their deposits will be considered in computing the final publishing cost.

One of my questions to my faculty is whether there is a specific timeline for publishing my research. I need this information to guide me when selecting a publisher to avoid lateness issues. I would also like to know what would happen if the publisher shared my research with a third party before publishing it. If such a case occurs, can the school help me reclaim my work or act as a witness that the work is mine if I take legal action? Lastly, I would also like to know whether the faculty has any recommendations for the publishers we should engage with and guidelines on what to expect from them.

Head out to the web and start looking for academic or trade journals that might be a good home for your dissertation; you will be talking about your choices in the discussion board this week. Be sure to check out the literature on “predatory journals,” publications that charge you to publish your work, are not well-respected, and/or simply claim to exist but don’t. Who’d have thought? Publishing isn’t for the faint of heart!
