Interview Questions-Nurse

Interview Questions-Nurse

The selected healthcare position is a nurse. The position of a nurse requires teamwork while working with colleagues such as nurse leaders, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to provide the best patient outcomes, increase job satisfaction, and ensure that safety procedures are effective (Feldman et al., 2011). Moreover, the nurse would be required to administer proper medication, diagnosis, treatment, and care for the patients, among other responsibilities assigned by a nurse leader.

Organizational Culture

As a nurse, tell us a challenging case you handled and how you would teach your subordinates to address similar cases.

Organizational Fit

Give us an episode where you enhanced efficiency in clinical operations

Organizational fit as related to diversity

Tell us about a time when you had to work with your subordinates in a clinical operation and how you coordinated efforts with them. What are some of the challenges you faced while working with your subordinates in the clinical operation?

Organizational fit as related to inclusion

How would you handle a case where a patient’s beliefs are in conflict with your beliefs or healthcare ethics?

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance at the workplace

What do you consider most important when selecting your subordinates to work on a project?

Legal issues and government regulations

How would you handle a situation where a colleague has misdiagnosed a patient, and they have confided in you?

Question of Character

How would you respond when patients ask for your personal diagnosis outside the healthcare setting?

Rationales for these interview questions

The first question is chosen to test if the candidate can follow the guidelines and expectations of a nurse in addressing the challenges faced and how they would be able to share similar practices with subordinates.

The second question is selected to test if the candidates’ ways around their duties and responsibilities coincide with the expectations of the healthcare center and whether their ways improve the effectiveness of the healthcare center or not.

The third question is chosen to test whether the candidate is able to work effectively in a multicultural environment. According to Ng & Sears (2020), in order for an individual to prioritize diversity practices, they should perceive their managers to be committed earnestly to diversity. Therefore, this question will indicate how the candidate would perceive working in such an environment. This is because nurses have to work with various professionals and patients every day and, therefore, need cultural competence and cultural appropriateness to be effective (Shepherd et al., 2019).

In the fourth question, the nurse candidate will most probably encounter different patients daily. As a human resources manager, I would need to understand how the values and perceptions would affect the healthcare organization as well as patient outcomes (Feldman et al., 2011).

In the fifth question, it is important to understand if the candidate is fair in choosing the criteria used in selecting their subordinates.

In the sixth question, in the case of any medical error that would result in legal matters, the human resources manager would need to know if the candidate would handle the situation ethically and in adherence to the law of operation.

In the seventh question, based on the employment agreement the candidate has with the employer, the human resources manager would need to know if the candidate can conduct themselves with integrity and ethically handle matters outside the medical setting professionally.
