Integrative Intervention Plan-Postpartum Sadness

Name of the Case

Case Summary

Diagnostic Information

Ms. Perez had presented herself to the psychiatric clinic two weeks after giving birth to her second child. Since giving birth, Ms. Perez has been dysphoric, hopeless, and overwhelmed. Her referring nurses noted she exhibited a depressed mood, flat affect, and fatigue. After a psychiatric analysis, Ms. Perez was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, single episode, moderate severity, without psychotic features, with peripartum onset.

Stage of Change

At 23 years old, Ms. Perez is a woman in her early adulthood stage of change. She is, therefore, a young adult. At this stage, she is experiencing several conflicting changes that may impact the success of her treatment. For instance, women during their early adulthood continuously undergo issues of identity, establishing their personal space, pursuing education and a career, making decisions on relationships and family, and becoming more self-aware and emotionally mature(Berk, 2018). Being in a marriage with two children may impact Ms. Perez’s coping capabilities.

Motivational Strategies

A motivational strategy I could use to encourage Ms. Perez is listening to her without judgment and offering emotional support. This is based on the understanding that a young adult who got married earlier may not fully become self-aware and achieve emotional maturity (Berk, 2018).

Integrative Intervention Plan

An integrative intervention plan will identify and change the negative thought processes and behaviors of Ms. Perez, integrate her experiences, and improve them, as well as involve and educate her husband and her parents on how to support her throughout treatment. Additional approaches include helping the client connect with her child and address any underlying issues affecting her.

Plan Analysis

The plan has a high potential to efficiently meet the client’s needs and support her recovery. Blended psychological interventions have been found to have significant effects in managing postpartum depressive symptoms and reducing patient care costs (Branquinho et al., 2020).
