Hypothesis: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between the environment where an individual is raised, the parent’s relationship with a child, and their academic performance at school. The hypotheses aimed at confirming whether there is a significant difference in academic performance for adopted and biological children as well as different family environments. The results from the findings partly confirmed the hypothesis by indicating that the relationship between parent relations (foster or biological) had a significant relationship with a child’s academic performance. Children related to parents biologically performed better than children with a foster relationship with their parents. However, the family environment where an individual was raised (close-knit and dysfunctional) did not have a significant relationship with academic performance. Parenting style also did not have a significant relationship with academic performance. Hire our assignment writing services in case your assignment is devastating you.

Previous Literature: Some findings from the study confirmed conclusions from existing literature, while other findings disapproved of some inferences from previous studies. The study by Li and Qiu (2018) established that the biological relationship between the parent and child also determined the academic performance of children. However, academic performance was not dependent on the genetic relationship but on parental support, the child’s mental and cognitive abilities, and resources since when parents adopt children with the proper socioeconomic status, they are highly likely to perform well academically. Notably, the study seems to contradict findings from Dégeilh et al. (2019) that entailed a review of existing literature and showed that the home environment impacts a child’s mental and motor skills. However, the literature reviewed by Dégeilh et al. (2019) did not specify the home environmental factors studied. These factors could have been different from the close-knit and dysfunctional family environments explored in the current study.

Strengths and Limitations: One of the major strengths of the study was the use of an appropriate methodological process of data collection and analysis that enabled the drawing of inferences that provided information about the study hypotheses. The study also employs a data collection method that facilitates the collection of categorical data that suits Chi-square analysis. However, the study had a few limitations. One of the limitations is that even though the survey went well and the respondents are believed to have given honest responses, the researchers believe that some responses could have been affected by inaccuracy resulting from the respondents’ unwillingness to offer honest answers (Pressbooks, n.d).

Study Standards: The study adheres to the American Psychological Association’s (APA) standards in citations and referencing the sources used to obtain information. The study also adheres to APA style when reporting the findings from the study and formatting data tables and analysis results. The overall formatting of the research paper also adheres to the requirements of APA style, including the cover page, indentation of first lines in paragraphs, bolding and center aligning the sub-topics, and italicizing where necessary.

Future: Every study provides a pathway for further studies by pointing out gaps in the field of knowledge as well as suggesting measures that can be employed to arrive at more profound findings. From the findings in the current study, the study suggests three areas of further study. The first area is the impacts of adoption on the emotional and psychological development of the child. This area should examine whether adopted children have emotional or psychological challenges. The second area that needs research is the impact that the environment has on the development of special interests. The third area that needs research is examining if the connection between the adopted children and their parents is similar to the connection between children and their biological parents.
