Importance of Stakeholder Support

Pressure ulcers are a major concern for patients who are bedridden for long periods. Proper management of pressure ulcers can greatly improve patient outcomes and decrease hospital stays (Mervis & Phillips, 2019). Further, the proper management of pressure ulcers can result in increased patient satisfaction, increased job satisfaction for nurses, a positive rating on the healthcare facility, and reduced patient management costs for the healthcare facility

The success of the skincare team project will rely heavily on three stakeholders. The first of these stakeholders are the nurses at the healthcare facility. Nurses need to be informed of the importance of the proper management of pressure ulcers. This will call for staff training on pressure ulcer management, which will include informing the nurses of the costs of pressure ulcers on the patient and the healthcare facility. When nurses are skilled and knowledgeable in managing pressure ulcers, they will act as patient educators and will transfer this information to the patients (Kaddourah et al., 2016). Nurses can teach patients and their home caregivers how to avoid pressure ulcers and manage them once patients are discharged from the healthcare facility.

The second category of stakeholders in the healthcare facility is the department heads where the proposed change will occur. The department heads will need to be on board and be active change agents. When the department heads support the initiative, then staff will be motivated to adopt the change (Gaspar et al., 2019). The department heads will need to verbally communicate their support and encourage persons who may be uncertain about the effect of the project on their work.

The last category of stakeholders in the local nursing organization. The success of the project will need to be replicated in other healthcare facilities in the community. The local nursing organization will be instrumental in ensuring this happens by publishing the findings of the project on their website and recommending that other healthcare facilities adopt the same for better patient outcomes.

Importance of Stakeholder Support

Consider your internal stakeholders, such as the facility, unit, or health care setting where the change proposal is being considered, and your external stakeholders, like an individual or group outside the health care setting. Why is their support necessary to the success of your change proposal, and how will you go about securing that support?
