Impaired Nurses Program in Indiana

Impaired Nurses Program in Indiana

The Indiana Nursing Board contains an impaired nursing program called the Indiana State Nursing Assistance Program (ISNAP). The purpose of this program, which was formed on 1st July 2018, is to keep track of nurses who may be impaired due to substance abuse. The program offers the motivation and assistance these nurses need to locate the best recovery solutions and provides the tools they need to get back to work and avoid substance abuse (Smiley & Reneau, 2020). Substance abuse may impact the licensee’s capacity to perform safely and skillfully.

Addressing Impaired Nurses Program

The issue of impaired nurses must be handled by policies that protect the health of citizens without jeopardizing the employment of nurses. This can be done by observing the impaired nurses routinely without putting undue stress on them. However, harsh and explicit corrective action must be taken when nurses disobey the guidelines (Vernarec, 2001). Additionally, before the issue arises, nurses should be educated about substance use’s consequences while still in school and at work. Moreover, there should be a limit on the supply of narcotic medications.

Disciplinary Action on BON Websites

Disciplinary action must be kept private since it could harm a hospital’s credibility, drive away patients and clients, and force the facility to close. To avoid becoming victims, nurses should be made aware of disciplining measures. Discipline can be carried out privately by dismissing a worker who disobeys professional ethics or revoking their license to practice (Vernarec, 2001). However, substance use-related behavior is grounds for disciplinary action in both public and private, including punishment and prosecution by government agencies and disciplinary actions by the facility for breaking the law through substance abuse.

Indiana State Protection for Disabled Nurses

Despite impaired nurses’ restrictions when providing their duties, they have the same chance as everyone else to keep their jobs. They are placed in areas with fewer chances for them to make medical mistakes or inconvenience patients. Appropriate accommodations are made at work to support employees with physical disabilities, including leave for therapy, flexible scheduling, and modifications to movement with escalators or elevators (Smiley & Reneau, 2020). They have adequate insurance coverage for their medical problems. Also, the government exempts nurses with disabilities from paying taxes.
