Human Services Values Resources

Human Services Values Resources

Values are critical in service delivery because they determine how an individual interacts with the client in a given situation. Most of the time, values are determined by social values and the perspective of each individual (Iniesta-Arandia et al., 2014). Culture shapes how we interact with others in society and guides our behaviour.

Acceptance occurs when a person accepts the actions of others regardless of how they react. A person’s attitude must be one that easily bonds with others. It is the most difficult value for me to accept. People have different perspectives and understandings of various agendas. For example, it is difficult to determine whether an individual’s actions are genuine or intended to upset you. A teen may come to seek advice and counselling on matters that do not concern him or her, such as a relationship with a teacher. Because teenagers are cunning and mischievous, it is difficult to determine their motivation in this case.

The most important value is individuality, which deals with the qualities and characteristics that distinguish one person from others. One understands how to deal with people and integrate easily into society. It is an important value for a human service professional. One is better able to explain ideas to others and maintains self-confidence when dealing with various issues.

Values help to establish good relationships and dictate how to handle and account for various life scenarios. A professional in the human services field comes into contact with a variety of people and must therefore find a way to ensure that they can communicate effectively and solve problems. Furthermore, professionals alter coworker relationships and provide effective services to clients. Identifying my values is critical in determining my future professional requirements. It is simple to identify the strong and weak points and make the necessary adjustments to fit in a given situation.
