How Social Workers Develop and Use Goals
Social workers work closely with community members and individuals who need help and assess their needs, support networks, strengths, and situations to determine their goals (Florida State University, 2020). The National Association of Social Workers (2022) provides social workers with various codes of ethics and standards that can help guide them in their work as social workers. This will help them learn how to act in different situations. Furthermore, professional associations can provide opportunities for social workers to learn various ways of dealing with problems, hence increasing their knowledge base.
According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), social workers are expected to stay updated on current information and indulge in evidence-based practice as this helps them offer the services and treatment that is most likely to help them attain their goals and meet the client’s needs (Virginia Commonwealth University, 2021). Social workers also indulge in regular research, which helps keep them updated on how they can best deal with clients. Evidence-based practice is common among social workers as it helps them learn how to deal with various situations in a manner that has been proven effective.
Furthermore, using evidence-based practice enables social workers to make sure that the programs are implemented successfully, and this helps them attain their goals. It also helps them develop innovative and creative ways of solving various problems. By conducting in-depth research, social workers can find appropriate ways of meeting their goals and solving various community and client needs. Evidence-based practice can help social workers personalize the goals and needs of the clients, enabling them to learn how to think and act outside the box whenever scenarios that are not well-described in the NASW present themselves.
