The U.S. secret service should be separated from the department of homeland security. The functions of the secret service clearly define the role they play in overseeing the president’s security. The homeland department mostly works on security issues that take place within the country. The secret service works with other agencies and countries to ensure that the security of the president is preserved in the most amicable manner. They ensure that the president and family members are given the adequate security that they need (Kessler, 2016). While in the country, they work with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that they have adequate information in regard to the matter. While outside the country, they collaborate with the air force and marines to ensure that they preserve the security of the president. Their functions broadly define their purpose and provide a clear ground on why they should be separated from the homeland department.
