Healthcare Statistics Summative Discussion
The healthcare statistics study has been an interesting yet insightful course. The course has equipped us with the necessary skills required in data collection, effective data use, data presentation, and verification of healthcare data. Generally, the topics’ content has been supplemental, whereby the preceding topic has proved important in understanding other subsequent topics. Therefore, every topic has been very vital in the learning process. The topics I found more compelling in this course involved the effective use of data, presentation of data, and verification of healthcare data due to their practical aspects. The text by Mazhindu (2014) was a useful resource for further comprehending the topics.
Participation in the discussions was also a crucial endeavor that enabled sharing insights about the various concepts and gaining different perspectives about the concepts. The discussion boards contributed to a deeper understanding of the concepts learned. Due to thorough participation in class activities and discussions, I have comprehended most of the content learned in the topics. Besides understanding the concepts, the discussion boards also offered an opportunity to practice communicating in a substantive and clear manner and use relevant examples to reinforce the ideas.
The course has been phenomenal in helping us relate statistical concepts to healthcare operations. The emphasis on statistical applications has also enabled us to think about research in a practical and sound fashion. However, a chance to practice the analysis process of data using statistical software or Advanced Excel functions would provide a deeper understanding of the whole healthcare statistics process and would be a valuable addition to the learning process, as Veney (2009) discusses in his text.
