Healthcare Statistics and Research
Statistical information on the utilization rates and other measures of quality health care can be obtained from HealthData.gov, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) databases, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) databases, Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) databases, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services databases. The research team focused on the rate of in-hospital mortality statistics for the period drawn from the HCUP database to track and demonstrate quality improvement in healthcare services.
The rate of in-hospital mortality statistics is the number of deaths and related information that occur during the period of hospital stay while receiving treatment. The rate of in-hospital mortality can be calculated using the number of inpatients who died in the hospital divided by the total number of hospitalizations recorded within a particular period. For example, to find the in-hospital mortality rate for a facility for a particular disease, the death rate can be calculated by the number of people who died of the disease divided by the number of hospitalizations due to the disease during their inpatient stay.
Research questions aid researchers in deciding on the research methods to use limits of the research, direct the research, and act as references throughout the research process. Research helps collect data that can be analyzed and used to fill a perceived knowledge gap in a particular subject or field and provide an evidence base for health decisions (Jungblut, 2020).
Hypothesis testing includes all tests on the previously developed assumptions on the studied parameters by analyzing sample data. Hypothesis testing helps researchers test the sample of the population being analyzed, determine the plausibility of the assumptions, and develop plausible arguments from the tested assumptions.
Formulated Hypothesis
The rates of in-hospital deaths significantly relate to the quality of care delivered.

Question
Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions with your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

Healthcare Statistics and Research
Your new staff was very interested in learning about the many online federal and state healthcare databases and the different types of statistical information available in each database. Like other healthcare organizations, Choice Hospital wants to maintain its financial stability and improve the quality of patient care. The new CEO of Choice Hospital would like to gain a better understanding of utilization rates and other measures of performance that can be used to track and demonstrate quality improvement. As the HCA, you and your team are asked to conduct preliminary research in the following areas:
Identify databases for statistical information on the utilization rates and other measures of quality performance (e.g., average length of stay [ALOS], patient wait times, and death rates) and select a healthcare statistic.
Define your chosen healthcare statistic and explain how it was calculated.
Explain to your staff the purpose of research questions and how the data obtained from research questions are used for informed decision-making.
Describe hypothesis testing and how it is used in research.
Formulate a hypothesis related to your chosen healthcare statistic.
Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with at least a 100-word reply about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions: I NEED AT LEAST 400 words.
