Global and Environmental Health

Global and Environmental Health

The article is sourced from The New York Times newspaper. It was authored by Raymond Zhong and published on October 5, 2022. The article is titled “Climate Change Made Summer Hotter and Drier Worldwide, Study Finds.” According to the author, human activities impact global warming significantly. This has increased the severity of droughts by twentyfold. This is evidenced by reduced food production, wildfires, reduced water levels in rivers, reduced hydropower generation, and energy crises.

According to the author, more than 11,000 and 8,000 deaths related to global warming have been recovered in France and Germany, respectively. Additionally, 1,600 flood-related deaths recorded in Pakistan have been attributed to climate change (Zhong, 2022). The author reports that these effects are likely to worsen by a factor of fifteen if the planet warms to 3.6 Fahrenheit more than temperatures recorded in the pre-industrial error (Zhong, 2022).

The concept of determinants of health is relevant to this article. In this context, the physical environment and economic environment are relevant. Climate change is associated with global warming, drought, and ravaging floods (O’Neill et al., 2020). Drought caused by climate change is likely to impact hydropower production, create energy crises, and increase the cost of living (O’Neill et al., 2020). Drought and floods are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates (Fawzy et al., 2020). Climate change is a global problem; hence, all continents are at risk. However, findings indicate that central and western Europe is at the highest risk of global warming (O’Neill et al., 2020). Stakeholders from the state and federal government and healthcare facilities should collaborate to provide timely care to those affected by the effects of climate change, such as floods.

Sustainable Development Goals reflect the goals and objectives of the member states of the United Nations. Notably, they aim to promote health and ensure the well-being of individuals. To achieve this, the focus is to eliminate hunger, diseases, and poverty (World Health Organization, 2022). These SDGs are relevant to climate change. Notably, SDGs 3d, 6, and 2 address the risks of hunger, morbidities, and mortalities associated with climate change (World Health Organization, 2022).

the purpose:

This discussion board content is intended to facilitate learning for students through engaging dialogues as they achieve the desired learning outcomes/competencies associated with their course in a manner that empowers them to organize, integrate, apply, and critically appraise their knowledge to their selected field of practice.

Global and Environmental Health

Global and Environmental Health

The use of discussions provides students with opportunities to contribute graduate-level-appropriate knowledge and experience to the topic in a safe, caring, and fluid environment that models professional and social interaction. The ebb and flow of a discussion is based upon the composition of student and faculty interaction in the quest for relevant scholarship.

Participation in the discussion generates opportunities for students to actively engage in the written ideas of others by carefully reading, researching, reflecting, and responding to the contributions of their peers and course faculty. Discussions foster the development of members into a community of learners as they share ideas and inquiries, consider perspectives that may be different from their own, and integrate knowledge from other disciplines.
