Genres of Fiction
There are several genres of fiction. Based on the movies played and books written, the audience and readers can distinctly discover the genres used in the plot set-up. Also, the interactions between characters shed light on the type of genre. Some fiction genres include romance, action, science fiction, fantasy, thriller, horror, mystery/crime, humor/ comedy, or blended genres. These fiction genres may influence the reader’s personality or audience based on the material they are exposed to. My favorite fictional genre is the romantic genre.
The Romantic Genre is a combination of fiction and romance or love. According to Pamela Regis, a romance novel is a work of fiction that relays the relationship between couples. Over time, the romance genre has evolved to include tales of vampires, witches, werewolves, ghosts, fallen angels, and other supernatural beings. Various characteristics are used to identify a story or a movie in the romance genre. These characteristics include narration plotting, which involves structuring a relationship between two or more individuals, the presence of a satisfying ending, the ability of narration to evoke emotions from the readers, and the narration must focus on romance above all else. These characteristics differentiate romance from other genres (Ramsdell, 2012).
There are various reasons people prefer the romance genre. Firstly, in the world of imagination, I get a chance to picture the characters and the environments set as I like. Subsequently, this imagination allows me to enjoy a romantic book. The “happily ever after” at the end of most romantic stories might also influence my preference. Romantic books also build a believer in love in their readers. Furthermore, their ability to evoke emotions is what turns readers into believers. I have read good romantic books, including the “Storm and Silence” series by Robert Their, and a romantic movie that I enjoy is “After” by Anna Todd. Works of fiction provide an escape for most readers.
