Future Implications of Holistic Health

Future Implications of Holistic Health

Holistic health is the future of health care and healthy living. Holistic health considers the patient as a whole. Holistic health practitioners acknowledge the connectedness and interdependence of the aspects of a patient, including their emotional, spiritual, and biological aspects. Due to this interconnectedness and interdependence of human aspects, holistic health holds the belief that ill health experienced in one aspect creates an imbalance that affects all other aspects.

The current and conventional approaches to healthcare focus on disease diagnosis and treatment based on observable symptoms. On the other hand, holistic health goes beyond the symptoms to identify other factors that are actually related to the development of the health problem. Other than treating the identified symptoms, holistic health approaches seek to develop long-term solutions to the health issues.

Modern care practices are currently focused on adopting strategies that provide patient-centered care (Håkansson Eklund et al., 2019). Taking into account that holistic approaches to healthcare encourage people to get more involved in healthcare and take charge of their health and well-being (Eliopoulos, 2018), holistic health has a great opportunity to become the central practice in health care. Therefore, holistic health and traditional healing methods will need to be integrated into healthcare to improve disease diagnosis from the root causes and to provide an all-around person- and patient-centered care focused not only on physical well-being but on both mental and spiritual well-being.

As a holistic health practitioner, I will include elements of holistic health, such as being mindful of my everyday living and appreciating every moment as valuable. I will consume foods that are nutritious avoid fast foods and grow positive relationships as I overcome my bad habits.
