Goals of Nursing Research
Enhancing Patient Care Quality
One of the most significant objectives of nursing research is the quality enhancement of patients’ care. By researching, nurses can discover what methods work more effectively with interventions or treatments that lead to the success of patients. This goal is paramount because it is directly translated to patient’s positive outcomes and achievement of their satisfaction under nurse’s care (Stavropoulou et al., 2022).
Advancing Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)
The nursing research objective is to adopt a procedure by which evidence shall be produced and used in cognitive decision-making and practice. Through disciplined experimentation, nurses can generate concrete evidence in the form of success stories of treatments and remedies. This evidence creates the basis for in place strategy, which antiquates nursing from the highs of tradition and opinions.

Research in nursing is a resource that helps prevent incidents from escalating and discover errors, risks, and adverse events in healthcare settings. Nursing, based on the results of research, can often adopt measures, protocols, and guidelines that can help reduce the incidence of adverse events, fostering improved safety of patient care units (Stavropoulou et al., 2022).

For example, when a nurse uses evidence-based wound care strategies that research findings have supported, it is much more likely that their patients will heal faster and the risk of complications will be reduced.

Under EBP, it is the procedures that are approved after rigorous proof that they are efficient and safe that are used. Evidence-based administration protocols are essential in the avoidance of adverse events and mistakes, which in turn contribute to increased safety of the patients. For example, implementation of evidence-based medication administration regulations lowers the side effects of medication errors and adverse drug reactions. This thus creates safer environments for patients satisfactorily (Kwame & Petrucka, 2021).
Increased Efficiency and Resource Utilization
Nurses are the right persons to utilize medical resources effectively, which comes from evidence-based practice. By prioritizing interventions with superior endorsed impacts, nurses may consequently not practice spare procedures, tests, or treatments and thereby, decrease healthcare costs and save resources. For instance, nurses employ evidence-based triage protocols in emergency departments, which helps them make effective use of their time in prioritizing the needs of patients, leading to shorter wait times and improved resource allocation.
Overcoming Barriers to Evidence-Based Nursing Practice
The barriers to the implementation of EBP in nursing embrace the aspects of resource constraints, integration problems, restricted access to evidence, time limitations, and organizational opposition. Overcoming these barriers necessitates allocating resources and training, and applying EBP concepts in practice. It also involves getting staff engaged in leadership and encouraging staff to continue learning through continuous education and nursing mentorship. The primary implication of this is standardizing processes and identifying with examination and lifelong learning teachings, through which nurses can learn to apply evidence to fill knowledge and skill gaps seamlessly for all-rounded patient care (Pitsillidou et al., 2021).
Evidence-Based Nursing Practice: Workplace Implementation
My workplace has extensively used hourly rounding for evidence-based nursing practice, which requires nurses to visit patients at specific times to assess and satisfy their needs. Research shows the efficiency of preventing falls and pressure ulcers by intervening in patients’ requirements for their safety and health at the right time. An essential aspect of training is that nurses have ample time for hourly rounding programs, which are monitored by auditing and feedback sessions that aim at assessing adherence and outcome. Efforts of constant improvement in the process show the best implementation while, at the same time, they correspond to the principle of evidence-based patient care and the relevance of patient needs.
