The Rose Bowl is an American football event held annually. The event attracts many fans across the world, hence its recognition as one of the largest sports events in America. According to Rivera (2023), more than 50 million people from different parts of the world watch the tournament. I have chosen the event for my project because it will help me understand how to manage a large, complex project, thus increasing my knowledge and competence in sports management. For example, I can learn about the critical factors that should be considered when planning a sports event. Faridsaminezhad (2023) argues that planning a sports event requires budgeting, conceptualizing, date selection, venue selection, training and recruitment of volunteers, sponsorship and fundraising, legal requirements and permitting marketing and promotion, and events staffing. The Rose Bowl event offers the opportunity to learn about these activities based on the information gathered from the interviews with the event planners. The Rose Bowl event is also an ideal event for my project because it involves a lot of project management activities to meet the audience’s expectations, which creates an opportunity for me to learn new things about project management. The Rose Bowl event also creates an opportunity for me to learn the expectations that fans attending a large sports event have and how event organizers ensure that all expectations are met without exceeding the event’s budget. The Super Bowl event is also an appropriate selection because it attracts many fans, including those who watch it online, which makes it easier to get the right interviewees for my project.
