Film Analysis- Aggression Conflict and Peacemaking
Film Analysis: Aggression, Conflict, and Peacemaking
The movie selected for analyzing aggression, conflict, and peacemaking is “Why Did I Get Married?” directed by Tyler Perry. This is a movie about friends who take their spouses out for a vacation to try and reignite their love. In the process, the couples learn some secrets about each other, and some end up leaving the holiday having broken up. The specific part of the movie that will be analyzed is the scene of a character called Marcus, who is caught up in a conflict between his jealous wife and his ex-girlfriend.
The characters in this section of choice are Marcus, Keisha, and Angela. Marcus, at first, is calm and does not like quarrelling. Angela, Marcus’ wife, is always angry and hysterical, and Keisha likes irritating her. In this scene, Marcus goes to Keisha’s house because she is the mother to his children (Terry, 2007). He goes there to stop them from fighting, and Angela tags along. He then stands up to the two women, and this is when he gets aggressive and gets into a conflict with the two women. He then makes peace by calming down and walking away.
Social psychology theories hold that aggression exists where there is some form of frustration. This is true in the movie because the women have frustrated Marcus, making him frustrated (Notelaers et al., 2018). When there is aggression, conflict calls for a resolution (Notelaers et al., 2018). In this movie segment, one can see the aggression manifested in the conflict between Marcus and the two women. Finally, peacemaking is the process that is also described as resolution (Curtain & Glowacz, 2019). This moment is where the conflicting characters solve their differences. Even though there is no direct apology in this scene, the calm between the characters is a sign of peacemaking.
