Family Communities and Leadership

Family Communities and Leadership

Communities blossom on strong families. Families educate individuals on how to function in the world. They offer people warmth and love that gives them the support they desire to make it through life’s hardest spots (Martinez-Acosta & Favero, 2018). Therefore, my strengths in building relationships and families are teamwork, good communication, and diversity/inclusion. First, teamwork allows me to collaborate with other community members through volunteer services. Good communication allows me to interact, network, and connect with different community members through positive communication. Lastly, I embrace diversity and inclusion, which has enabled me to accept that society comprises different people and cultures. Thus, I should learn to interact with and teach learners with the utmost respect for their cultures and interests and ensure every learner feels included and not discriminated against.

Problem-solving and decision-making skills are some of the areas of creating relationships with community and family stakeholders that I would wish to seek professional development. I need professional development to improve my decision-making skills because, as an educator, I need good decision-making skills that would positively impact an organization. Freeman et al. (2017) affirm having the skill to make quick but good decisions is important in all life circumstances. Thus, to become an effective manager, one must have good decision-making skills. The other area is problem-solving skills. This is a necessary skill in any discipline because conflict must arise anywhere a group of people works, and such conflicts must be solved with good problem-solving skills. I am often challenged with managing conflicts; therefore, I should seek professional development to improve this skill.

The knowledge and insight gained from this course have changed my definition of leadership. As such, leadership is the action of leading an organization or a group of people to the capability of an individual or group of individuals to guide and influence employees or groups of a company (Freeman et al., 2017). The course taught me that leadership does not just mean leading a group but also influencing the followers and community. Leadership does not stop at the organization: it stretches to families, communities, and homes.
