A Description of My Worldview

I have an ideological worldview often influenced by my ideals and values. However, this worldview changes when I interact with people who have a different perspective from me. For instance, when I interact with people with strong arguments about the things happening around us and evidence supporting the arguments, I adopt a philosophical worldview that includes beliefs about questions such as the nature of truth, existence, social relations, and knowledge.

I view the world as a large community where people should work together for the common good. The main assumptions and beliefs that affect how I explain the world, understand my circumstances, and live my life are that karma gives people what they deserve and that doing good does not always mean that someone is a good person. My worldview has developed based on my experiences and interactions with other people. For example, I grew up watching societal injustices and how the powerful and wealthy devalue the poor, thus shaping my ideological worldview. Country Summary


Algeria is located in North Africa and covers approximately 2,381,741 Sq Km. According to Britannica (2022), the country has the largest land area in the African continent. The country’s physical features include plains, mountains, and basins spread across different regions. Tell is the country’s most fertile region, stretching more than 600 kilometers towards the eastern side from the border between Algeria and Morocco. The eastern side is different from the western side because it has many topographic features. The southern region includes long ridges and steep cliffs. The southern side is a desert that is mainly covered by sand dunes. The northern region includes a broken topography. The country’s climate differs based on the region since mountain regions are generally cool, whereas the Saharan Atlas is hot and dry. The northern region has a Mediterranean climate. The country has taken precautions to protect the environment by preventing pollution, but some environmental challenges, such as air quality management, waste management, conservation of nature, quality of water resources, desertification, and marine and coastal pollution, are yet to be addressed.


Algeria operates under a democratic government. The country is divided into 1541 communes and 58 provinces. The military and a specific group of unelected civilians make major decisions in the country, including the decision of who should be president. Currently, the country has 130 active military members and 135 in reserve. The main domestic issues in the country include arbitrary detention, the detention of children, police brutality, poor living conditions in detention centers, and the theft of migrants’ belongings.


According to the World Health Organization, the average life expectancy in Algeria is 70.3 years for males and 73.5 years for females, and the birth rate is 20 births per 1000 people. The infant mortality rate is 18 deaths per 1000 births, and the infant mortality rate is 18 deaths per 1000 live deaths. The main infectious diseases in the country are Hepatitis, typhoid, rabies, measles, and cholera. By 2021, the rate of HIV/AIDS infection in the country was 0.1%


According to Miliani (2017), education is free and mandatory in Algeria for children between 6 and 9 years. The literacy rate is 81.41%, and most of the illiterate people are women mainly because of the Islamic culture that does not place much value on the education of girls and women.


The official languages in Algeria are Berber and Arabic (Crowley, 2017). The ethnic groups in the region include Berners and Arabs and a small group of Europeans representing less than 1% of the population. The main religion in the country is Islam, and most Muslims practice Sunni Islam.


Algeria operates under a mixed economic system characterized by government regulation, centralized economic planning, and private freedom. The country’s GDP is $ 163 billion. Most of the revenue comes from natural resources, which include gas and oil. The country’s currency, the dinar, has remained stable since the government introduced full convertibility, which allows importers to bid for hard currency in the country’s local banks.


Algeria was colonized by the French and acquired independence after 132 years in 1962 (Crowley, 2017). One of the main events in the country’s history is the Algerian War, which led to the country’s independence. The second event was the Algerian Revolution, which included attacks against the French military. The two events shaped the future of Algeria by granting the country total independence from the French and enabling the Algerians to create a constitution that is used to maintain law and order in the country and regulate business and human interactions.

Potential Sources Of Conflict: The Differences In Worldviews Could Cause

One of the differences in worldviews that could be a potential source of conflict between the two cultures is the interpretation of the motive of the ASF project. ASF’s worldview considers the Agua Sin Fronteras Project as a philanthropic initiative to help improve the lives of community members by ensuring that everyone has access to clean water, proper sanitation, and information about their health. On the contrary, the religious ideology in Algeria, founded on Islamic beliefs, may not see the significance of health education programs and may view it as a strategy the company uses to get humanitarian funding because Algeria is a developing country. The second source of conflict is uncertainty avoidance. The people of Algeria have a high uncertainty avoidance, and they do not readily accept change.

In contrast, the people of the United States have low uncertainty avoidance and focus on embracing change and trying new things. Therefore, Algerians may be reluctant to support the ASF project and prevent the company from building wells in their lands, creating conflict. The third source of conflict is a long-term orientation. Algeria has a normative culture characterized by high respect for traditions. Consequently, people from the United States are ready to embrace new ideas as long as they are well-informed about them. Therefore, it may take time before ASF’s project is supported by the local community and leaders, especially in communities with strong traditions regarding healthcare and sanitation practices.

How Americans Interact in Groups and at Work and How These Interactions Compare to Algeria

The people in the United States value individual responsibility and teamwork in the workplace. Therefore, they interact by forming work teams and exchanging information and ideas to complete tasks and develop creative ideas. Talking in the native language is also prohibited in the workplace in the United States because it undermines diversity and inclusion. Conversely, in Algeria, the relationship between people interacting in a group and at work is influenced by the confidence a person has in their counterparts. Algerians also follow a strict hierarchy of command at work, and business invitations, requests, and proposals are addressed to the head of the organization. Algerians are also allowed to speak their native language at work as long as they respect each other.

Actionable Solutions to Combat Potential Conflict and Foster Collaboration

One of the recommendations that ASF should consider to support collaboration and avoid conflict between differing worldviews if it starts working in Algeria is engaging religious leaders in creating awareness about the project and during its implementation. Algerians value and respect religious leaders, thus making it easier for religious leaders to convince them to take a specific course of action. Therefore, ASF can get goodwill from the community through the religious leaders, thus implementing the proposed project efficiently. The second recommendation is to collaborate with learning institutions to implement healthcare education programs so that the company can reach most people and gain the community’s interest in the program because parents may be interested in learning what their children are being taught. The third recommendation is to conduct pilot projects within rural communities to demonstrate the program’s benefits to people living in different sections of the country and increase the communities’ willingness to support the project. The country can also offer health education programs in healthcare facilities within the community to get people’s attention and gain the community’s trust and support.

You work for Agua Sin Fronteras (ASF, or “Water Without Borders”), an international nonprofit. ASF works to provide access to clean drinking water, improve sanitation, and deliver health education programs. Globally, children living in urban poverty have little control over their water sources. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) awarded funding to ASF to work on solving this problem. ASF plans to use this money to expand its efforts into new countries.

Your supervisor, Sue Edge, asked you to be on a committee recommending countries for ASF’s programs. These programs include the following:

Note: For this project, you should assume that ASF’s worldview is the same as your own. For this reason, you must investigate a country that’s different from your own. Research your chosen country.

If you would like to, you can do some of your own research beyond the country profile information provided in the Supporting Materials section. Remember to use authoritative sources and cite them in your work. Explore how ASF could conduct operations in your selected country.

The committee wants you to present your findings in a committee brief. Remember to assume that ASF’s worldview is the same as your own and base your responses on that. In your committee brief, include the following information: The name of your selected country, A summary of the country’s geography, government, health, education, culture, economy, and history, and A discussion of how you think various groups in your selected country would perceive ASF’s work: What differences in worldviews do you think could be potential sources of conflict when communicating between the two cultures? Brainstorm and describe at least three. How do people in your own country interact in groups and at work? How does this compare to your selected country? Propose at least three actionable solutions to address potential conflict and foster collaboration. Consider the following question: If ASF started working in your chosen country, what recommendations would you make to support collaboration and avoid conflict between differing worldviews?
