Exploring Folklore and Fantastic Literature in Literacy Development

Exploring Folklore and Fantastic Literature in Literacy Development

The overall aspect of folklore prompted me to read deeper to understand their impact on developing literacy knowledge. It made me evaluate its significance in a person’s life. The chapter on folklore provides an in-depth understanding of how folklore conveyed critical information from one generation to another. Folklore is entertaining and helps one to understand the world through sharing values and beliefs of different cultures (Galda et al., 2016). The chapter encourages me to think about the significance of folklore as a teaching tool since it promotes inclusivity in the learning environment. Educators who use it greatly impact their students since folklore promotes language development and offers a great opportunity to venture into the literature of different cultures. Folklore attributes have influenced me to consider its use in future teaching to help learners connect with the ancient days.

In addition, the fantastic literature encouraged me to evaluate and understand how humans interact and connect with the world. Fantastic literature provides a better understanding of the world and how the universal influences human behavior (Nodier et al., 2019). Despite fantastic literature offering effective bases for understanding the world, it came to my attention that educators need to consider the quality of the fantastic literature to identify meaningful literature that will encourage students’ learning and participation in the stories. Good, fantastic literature should be true, promote memory on its content, and reveal new insight on specific issues for students to have effective bases on its narrative (Galda et al., 2016). Also, the literature show has meaningful themes that help students think about their association with the world. Students should envision the fantasy world a writer depicts based on the story setting, characters, and theme.
