Evidence-Based Research – Income Inequality

Evidence-Based Research – Income Inequality

Evidence-based research justifies that income inequality is a social problem since it impacts the quality of life people live. Income inequality is not a problem because people have different wealth levels, but the fact that some people do not have enough (Greiner, 2014). In some of the unequal economies like the US, income differences mean the rich have so much, whereas the poor cannot even afford basic life needs such as shelter. The problem of income inequality is severe in developed capitalist countries compared to more equal societies. For instance, people in the lower income group in equal societies do better than those in the lower income groups in unequal societies. Do you need help with your assignment ? One of the greatest concerns about income inequality in capitalist countries is that the most vulnerable do not access primary healthcare. Not even public health insurance plans come to the aid of the most vulnerable. One of the harshest truths about healthcare access is that those who need it the most cannot access it. In the US, for instance, those who live in poor rural and urban areas are most susceptible to health issues (Greiner, 2014). Even with such problems, these neighborhoods still face the highest rates of hospital closures and a lack of sufficient medical personnel. On the other hand, providers are not reimbursed timely or at all due to systematic exclusion. Lack of healthcare access is a serious social problem that needs to be addressed.

Also, income inequality limits access to education, which may prevent the poor from changing their fortunes in life. As the adage goes, education is an equalizing factor. However, university education is extremely expensive, locking out children from poor backgrounds. Although digitization has opened up new opportunities to work online, only those with university-acquired specialization skills can work there (Harwood, 2019). On the other hand, uneducated ones are left to compete for traditional manufacturing and clerical jobs, leading to an unending poverty cycle.
