Telehealth technology can be used in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. Telehealth technology enables the interdisciplinary team to collaborate effectively and to provide patient-centered healthcare. I am interested in telehealth technology because it improves workflow, patient safety, and the quality of healthcare. Workflow is improved by eliminating the necessity for in-person visits and creating flexible access to care (Hatcher-Martin et al., 2021). Patient safety is optimized because telehealth allows timely access to care, timely initiation of healthcare interventions, and periodic patient monitoring (Hatcher-Martin et al., 2021). I believe that all healthcare facilities should embrace telehealth technology in their routine.

I used peer-reviewed articles to provide comprehensive evidence for my research. I sourced these peer-reviewed journal articles from online databases. Notably, I used PubMed and Google Scholar. The CRAAP (currency, relevance, accuracy, authority, and purpose) model enabled me to ascertain the credibility of the peer-reviewed articles (Esparrago-Kalidas, 2021). Regarding currency, I selected articles published within the past five years. Regarding relevance and purpose, I selected articles whose themes and goals are harmonious with the chosen topic. Next, concerning authority, I checked for the authors’ affiliations and the relevance of their professions to the chosen topic (Esparrago-Kalidas, 2021). The online databases allowed me to use key search terms. I used search terms such as “telehealth,” “patient safety,” and “healthcare.”

Thirdly, telemedicine allows healthcare providers to monitor patients with long-term illnesses continuously. Remote patient monitoring was realized through the use of wearable devices. As such, telehealth improved the quality of care and patient safety.

The authors report that the COVID-19 pandemic heightened the necessity for behavioral health providers to embrace telemental health. TMH practitioners acknowledged that it improved their workflows. Notably, they used videoconferencing to synchronize their services. As a result, TMH boosted access to care. For example, the implementation of TMH resulted in a ten percent increase in behavioral health visits. Further, TMH allowed patients to select clinicians of their choice. Secondly, a collectivistic organizational culture will promote the implementation of telehealth technology because all stakeholders will remain committed to a common goal. On the other hand, an individualistic organizational culture creates disharmony and impedes the implementation of health technology (King et al., 2020). Thirdly, organizational policies that champion quality care, patient safety, and appropriate use of technology will promote health technology acquisition and implementation (King et al., 2020).

Moreover, telehealth technology improves the quality of care in various healthcare settings. Andrews et al. (2020) report that telehealth is associated with high satisfaction levels among patients and healthcare practitioners. This is attributed to the ability of telehealth to allow timely access to healthcare, allow remote patient monitoring, and eliminate physical barriers to healthcare access. Groom et al. (2021) report that telehealth has improved the quality of care by minimizing admissions and hospital stays, cutting healthcare expenses, removing physical barriers, increasing access to clinicians, as well as enabling continuous patient monitoring. Additionally, Harding et al. (2020) report that telehealth optimizes the productivity of the interdisciplinary team by improving communication and allowing them to collaborate with stakeholders from other healthcare facilities. Finally, telehealth allows healthcare facilities to optimize their workflows and improve patient follow-up. Conclusively, all these factors show the appropriateness of telehealth and justify the need for its implementation and use in healthcare settings.
