Every Good Endeavor Reflection
God has called us to work actively for the coming kingdom. (Duzer, 2010). In the book
Why Business Matter to God, the author explains why understanding the purpose of the role of our job and business is essential. Welchel (2012), As followers of Christ, we must address our failures to live as His followers in the workplace and think theologically about how we integrate our faith and work. We must learn not just to work to live but to live to work for the glory of God (Welchel, 2012, p. 2)
Psalm 57:2 says,
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” This is key to understanding God’s purpose for your life. God has numbered your days and will fulfill His every purpose for you.
God is the world’s creator, and our work mirrors his creative work when he creates a culture that conforms to his will and vision of human beings- when it matches the biblical storyline (Keller, 2014, p. 186). God wants us to value our neighbors and value their work. It is hard to understand the purpose of our work, and sometimes it’s hard to open the eyes of our neighbors so that they can understand God’s purpose without using the word God. Humans are absorbed by their ego, selfishness, and money; at the end of the path, they do not see or understand their goal.
Sometimes in life, we focus on what we want, and if it does not happen the way we want, we get disappointment. It is a process to understand the why, and it is hard to understand that things do not happen for a reason. God, what us to be like him, we never stop worrying, and he wants us to continue His work. The aspect of work as provision is why much work that Christians do is not done, at least not in visible form, any differently from how non-Christians do it. (Keller, 2017, p. 187). Humans are made in the image of God, and we have learned to value all people’s work and all kinds of work; that’s God’s plan.
