Ethical Leadership for Human Flourishing and Sustainability
When reading this discussion question, my mind went to Patagonia. Patagonia is an outdoor clothing and gear company dedicated to the above values: ethical behavior, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. The core values of the business reflect this. QThese core values are quality, integrity, environmentalism, justice, and not bound by convention (Patagonia, n.d.). With a mission statement to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis,” Patagonia has set a high bar. Patagonia rejects fast fashion, offers a repair and reuse program, and conducted research with industry bodies on the impact of microplastics. One of their well-known marketing campaigns was when they discouraged customers from purchasing too many of their products as it was made to highlight the consumerism of this world. They also implemented greenhouse gas emissions reduction activities in their supply chain to reduce their impact on the climate (Wolfe, 2023).
