I disagree with the statement, “Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA) are not required in today’s evolved organizational climate. EEO and AA enforce quotas on organizations that must be met during the hiring process, thus hiring unqualified applicants” based on several factors. First, globalization has changed workers’ demographic characteristics worldwide, resulting in a diverse workforce consisting of people from different cultures, religions, and races (Sharma, 2016). Thus, EEO and AA are critical in today’s evolved organizational climate to ensure that employees are not discriminated against during the hiring process based on their race, religion, sex, or age.

Second, there are rampant cases of disparate discrimination during the hiring process, whereby employers deny employment opportunities to a large number of qualified employees based on age, sex, religion, race, and disability (Glicken & Robinson, 2013). For instance, Walmart faced a discrimination lawsuit litigated by two employees who claimed they were denied employment because they were deaf (Glicken & Robinson, 2013). Also, Area Temps, a temporary labor agency based in Ohio, paid $650,000 in court fines in a lawsuit filed by EEOC for discriminating against employees based on age, race, national origin, and sex (Glicken & Robinson, 2013). Therefore, EEO and AA are still required in today’s evolved organizational climate to curb rising employment discrimination cases based on race, religion, age, or disability.

Third, employers invest huge amounts of resources in employee training and development programs to enhance their employees’ skills and equip them with new ones. In the event that some employees hired under EEO and AA programs have lesser qualifications, they can bridge the gap in skills through such employee training and development programs (Holzer & Neumark, 2000). Last, EEO and AA are required in today’s evolved organizational climate to correct the effects of past employment discrimination, including fewer women and minorities at top management levels in various organizations. Besides, Dessler (2020) posits that AA offers opportunities to achieve workplace equality by offering equal opportunities to women and minorities to attain leadership positions and eliminate the effects of past labor discrimination.
