Enhancing Care through Remote Collaboration

Enhancing Care through Remote Collaboration

The innovation of the remote collaboration method is a major strategy evolving with the changes in the healthcare landscape, which improves the care of remote patients and those residing in areas with little or no access to hospitals. As an EBP-driven nurse, I know EBP principles are crucial in developing viable care plans (Chen et al., 2022). This is even more relevant for care plans used in remote settings where colleagues will collaborate. In this essay, the goal is to define the treatment plan based on the Stetler Model and analyze the advantages and challenges of remote teamwork from my perspective of the situation.

Patient Information

The case is structured around a 25-year-old transgender male who lives in a remote region with no or not many medical facilities (Cusmano, 2021). The patient who has been assessed that s/he has gender dysphoria by a behavioral health evaluation wants hormonal and surgical treatments that are related to the transition process.

Evidence-Based Care Plan

Utilizing the Stetler Model, I will delineate a comprehensive care plan tailored to meet the unique needs of the patient:

The Message Ascription of gender dysphoria is the first task during this stage. During this period, the clinician tests for other conditions that might present symptoms similar to gender dysphoria. Evaluation and diagnosis of the disorder involve appropriate examinations by skilled psychologists and endocrinologists supported by the necessary evidence (Duff et al., 2020). Assessment of the appropriateness and adequacy of evidence is undertaken during the Validation phase, which is needed to identify those who will make insightful contributions to clinical decisions. The care team, having thoroughly examined the results of the various tests, can confidently state the diagnosis and move on with a personalized treatment plan.

In Comparative Evaluation or decision making, data from the findings are synthesized, and treatment options are carefully scrutinized and compared according to their elevation, safety, and precision as they relate to the patient’s preferences (McCullough et al., 2020). Here, through this phase, it is understood that the main emphasis lies in patient-centered care and informed decision-making. Implementation and adaptation imply creating an action plan after the desired therapy has been chosen (Gilissen et al., 2020). Consequently, collaboration with the patients and other local health experts is required to ensure the smooth application of scientific theories and research findings into general practice.

The Evaluation phase targets monitoring patient outcomes and customizing interventions as needed, which goes hand in hand with the safety and effectiveness of the treatments. Constant evaluation is necessary to keep the care plan on track with the latest developments and the patient’s needs.

Utilization of the EBP Model

The definition of the three Stetler Model stages became a practical instrument for plan development. By organizing the optimal research phases, I could utilize the available research findings and other essential evidence in clinical care practice, ensuring quality, evidence-based care.

Relevant Evidence

Collecting evidence was governed by a strict requirement to use only reliable sources that had gone through thorough scholarly scrutiny, such as the works by Ciliska et al. (2011) and Stetler (2001). The availability of these sources equipped us with the knowledge needed to know the nursing practice through EBP. It informed the decision-making peg and the development of an evidence-based care plan.

Benefits and Challenges of Remote Collaboration

On the other hand, the remote work environment provides a wide range of opportunities. It could facilitate more effective communication between expert professionals from multiple fields, contributing to better patient outcomes due to the speed of treatment. Nevertheless, communication bottlenecks, certain technological restrictions, and the chance of statistical manipulation are important factors that represent a mandatory solution and call for a strategy for their mitigation.

Competencies Measured

There is a need for expertise in the use of intelligent communication tactics and strategies, and it should be ensured that practice has an evidence-based element. In this case, under the umbrella of teamwork in a distant location, highlighting advantages and proposing solutions to the problem of interdisciplinary teamwork will be necessary. Among the aspects of medical collaboration from a distance is the case of a transgender patient who is disabled and resides in a remote area without adequate medical facilities, which implies both opportunities and pitfalls. Adopting evidence-based practices like the Stetler Model highlights the holistic and specialized approach to providing the patient with a care plan that best suits their specific needs. While remote team collaboration is a better option given its social distancing aspect and efficiency, some communication bottlenecks, technological constraints, and the possible ‘statistical manipulation’ might hinder this trend.

Conclusion

Summarily, through the practice of evidence-based acts and remoting collaboration, nurses can also be able to negotiate with complexities in care delivery and, in return, get the best results and fulfill holistic well-being for patients with gender dysphoria.
