Engaging Nurse Leaders- Strategies for Facilitating Contact and Quality Improvement Initiatives

The advances in communication technology today among the general population and in healthcare are changing the way people communicate and interact. Technology, including communication technologies, is becoming an integral part of the healthcare environment in service delivery and research. However, a majority of healthcare workers have still not yet adopted these technologies within their practice settings. A change I would like to initiate that will benefit the healthcare community is the mandatory use of technology in communication and collaboration for quality improvement within healthcare settings. Nurses are major drivers for organizational change (Fagerström, 2021). Therefore, I will contact a nurse to help facilitate my planned change project.

I plan to facilitate making contact with a nurse leader by first identifying the nurse leader I would like to present the change project through networking events for nurses. I will also use nursing association websites and other platforms that provide an opportunity to identify and connect with nurse leaders. Additionally, as a student, I will utilize the faculty’s resources to contact the nurse leader and present to them a proposal for my change project.

As noted, the change project will involve a mandated use of technology in communication and collaboration among healthcare professionals. The first step is to prepare the healthcare professionals for the change project. This includes providing details of the change project to those who will be affected by the change. Next, training on technologies to be implemented will be offered to support the implementation and adoption of the new technologies. The final steps involve the implementation of the change project and evaluation of its effectiveness, including improvements in the quality of interprofessional communication, collaboration, and care services.
