Empowering Students to Own the Assessment Process

Question 1: How does assessment help in improving creative work?

Assessment helps improve student’s creative work by providing structure, feedback, and new growth opportunities. Self-assessment and peer assessment help one improve their creative work by refining their process and improving their outcomes (Spencer, 2020). An assessment helps a student to create clear goals and objectives for a specific creative work, which makes one focus on achieving the goals. An assessment gives an individual feedback on the strengths and weaknesses, which provides effective directives for improvement. When addressing one’s weakness, opportunities emerge, triggering more creative work.

Question 2: What is the importance of self-assessment in the classroom?

Self-assessment is an effective tool that helps students self-evaluate and make a realistic judgment of their learning process and performance, which propels improvement in their work. A student re-evaluates themselves based on specific instructions provided by their instructors. For instance, students proofread their assignments to make relevant changes before submitting them to their teachers. Instructors should encourage students to engage in self-assessment to effectively implement essential work changes, which helps them achieve full grades and improve their performances. Building on personal assessment skills equips one with effective skills for a person’s professional, encouraging one to regulate and monitor their performance.

Question 9: What is the three-two-one structure for peer feedback?

The three-two-one structure is a peer feedback strategy most effective for English language learners. Structured feedback requires a student to give three things one has learned in a lesson, two areas of improvement, and one question related to the learning material (Sandhu, 2023). This assessment strategy gives feedback to the teacher on future lesson development and the areas that need more emphasis. The students also clearly identify their strengths in the lesson by stating the areas they properly understand.
