Employee Voice in an Organization

Employee Voice in an Organization

Hello, and welcome to this presentation about employee voice in an organization. Employees should be able to air their views and feedback concerning different organizational matters to facilitate organizational success. This presentation includes a program containing various ways an organization’s HR may encourage employees to raise their voices and the channels that facilitate employee voices.

Effective communication involves speaking, listening, understanding, and allowing feedback. It should not only be a one-sided process where one only speaks without allowing other parties to give feedback. Most organizations are guilty of one-sided communication, whereby only top-level managers issue instructions without listening to others. To ensure effective communication, internal communication strategists should encourage senior managers to listen to employees’ voices even after issuing instructions. Unlike top-down communication involving sending out stuff (SOS), the alternative allows an organization to be all-ears on employee feedback.

Before developing an employee voice strategy, there is a need to understand the current state of employee relations and communication (Arnold & McClure, 1995). To that end, I will conduct an individual needs assessment on employee voice. Some of the methods I will apply to understand the state of employee voice include surveys, focus groups, and interviews. Survey questions will be designed in a way that will facilitate employees to air their personal views about what they feel without the fear of being stigmatized. Subsequently, I will review the company’s current policies, practices, and channels for airing employee voices. Afterward, I will analyze the insights gathered from this process and benchmark them against organizational goals and culture.

Following employee assessment, I will define the relevant objectives and outcomes I wish to achieve with the employee voice strategy. These objectives and outcomes should be aligned with the company’s mission, vision, and overall organizational strategy. While designing objectives, I will pay attention to employees’ expectations, needs, and preferences (Wilkinson et al., 2014). That is because preferences will differ across different roles and positions. Subsequently, I will endeavor to communicate these objectives to employees and ensure that they understand how they will potentially benefit from the specific employee voice strategies.

I will employ different strategies to implement and bolster the employee voice in the manufacturing company. First, I will encourage top-level managers to adopt a feedback system where employees and managers engage in a back-and-forth exchange of ideas (Wilkinson et al., 2020). Secondly, I will offer employees a platform that enables them to offer valuable insights that will improve the organization. For instance, they can post their ideas in a suggestion box. This is unlike the traditional framework whereby managers feel that they are the only ones who can offer valuable insights to build the organization. Another way to encourage employees’ voices is through encouraging them to apply their unique individual perspectives to solve problems in their respective roles. For instance, if there are consistent order delays due to organizational bureaucracy, I will encourage front-line employees to collect data based on the history of previous orders and use it to initiate manufacturing even before an order is made. Further, there is a need to make employees feel heard and appreciated by offering incentives that boost their sense of importance. Also, I will initiate a monthly physical meeting for employees and managers to enable the latter to keep employees engaged.

According to Lampe et al. (2016), digital platforms act as channels through which employees’ voices may be encouraged. Research shows that digital platforms enhance employee productivity as they gather vital information from the digital platforms. I will encourage employees to have social media platforms through which they can share work-related information within and outside the organization. One of the benefits of social media is that it strengthens personal bonds among coworkers such that they can freely exchange information. Also, employees use social media to seek professional support, which means that the employees will also be encouraged to share work-related expertise on social media platforms. However, I will implement a policy that prevents employees from sharing information portraying the organization negatively.

Employee Voice in an Organization

Persuade the audience of the importance of allowing and encouraging employees to have a voice, and present a plan of action to carry out the program.

There are two different approaches you can take to prepare this assignment:

Prepare 5-8 slides with a few bullet points on each one. Include at least two pertinent tables of data, graphs, and/or other visuals. Embed an audio recording in the slides (voice-over slides). Be sure to also include a cover slide and a list of references.

or
Prepare a well-done video where you are talking to the audience as well as showing them at least two pertinent tables of data, graphs, and/or other visual components related to the program contents and implementation plans.
Whichever format you choose (slides or video) persuade the audience that you have the best solution to improve employee voice for this company. Convince your audience (and your professor) that you know what you are talking about and show that you have a good chance of being hired.
