Effects of Leadership Styles on Employee Motivation

Effects of Leadership Styles on Employee Motivation

In my opinion, Jackie’s team is more motivated than Lester’s for several reasons. Jackie spends more time getting to know her team members, allowing her to use different strategies to customize motivating factors according to individuals’ needs. According to Alghazo and Al-Anazi (2016), individual employees are motivated by different factors; thus, different strategies should be adopted to customize motivation to individuals. For instance, some individuals are motivated by recognition, power, job security, and compensation (Alghazo & Al-Anazi, 2016). On the other hand, others just enjoy what they do and draw their motivation from intrinsic factors. Therefore, Jackie is more likely to understand what motivates her team members individually and customize motivating factors to individuals, leading to increased motivation among the employees. Further, Jackie’s team is likely to be more motivated than Lester’s, considering that by training and building trust in the team, Jackie earns the employee’s respect and loyalty, resulting in increased motivation. (Hossan, 2021).

Some advantages for team members on Jackie’s team include increased engagement, considering that Jackie is more likely to provide both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (Hossan, 2021). She spends more time building trust and getting to know her team members, which allows her to customize motivating factors to suit individual employees’ needs, thereby increasing engagement. Another advantage is learning opportunities to enhance their career growth prospects, considering that Jackie spends significant time training her team members. As a result, they are more likely to get promotions and recognition than Lester’s team members. Some disadvantages for Jackie’s team members include developing factions and perceptions of employee favoritism because motivation factors are customized to individuals.
