One key takeaway from conflict management is the importance of active listening, which involves fully understanding the perspectives and concerns of all parties involved in a conflict. Future practitioners can nurture empathy and trust through active listening, expecting and encouraging more constructive dialogue and solutions to conflicts (Nivedhitha Sathish Kumar, 2023). Moreover, gaining various conflict resolution skills, such as negotiation and mediation, prepares the practitioners with not only one but multiple skills, making them sort conflicts with versatility in different professional settings.

Based on the Conflict Management Styles Assessment, my preferred conflict management style is Collaborating (Owl). This simply implies I give the first chance to both my goals and relationships, treating conflicts as possible ways to reach compromised solutions. I see effective communication and problem-solving as integral components of building and maintaining relationships, and through these skills, I hope to accomplish my goals. Nevertheless, I know I still need to develop the Balancing (Fox) types, which implies finding a point of agreement and making sacrifices for all. Such a practice will allow me to handle situations where collaboration may be dysfunctional to foster adaptability in different situations.

In Mr. Smith’s case, I would form new tactics that might enable me to solve the problems regarding productivity that my employer emphasized. After becoming aware of conflict management styles such as the Collaborating (Owl) approach, I would communicate my concerns openly within the firm and look for a solution where productivity expectations can be met without compromising on great caregiving services. Hence, in order to encourage togetherness, which would benefit all parties, I would emphasize patient care and offer performance- and productivity-enhancing alternatives rather than defending the norm, without sacrificing care quality.
