Discussion – Space Policy Directives

From the analysis of the two articles, one can derive that Space Policy Directive 2 makes Space Policy Directive 1 easier to achieve. Space Policy Directive 1 seeks to facilitate human beings into the moon and beyond for solar system exploration (Northon, 2017). The US is on the frontline in implementing the program in partnership with other countries. On the other hand, Space Policy Directive 2 seeks to ease and streamline the regulations to speed up the process of space exploration approval (Wall, 2018). This will encourage commercial companies to participate in space programs. Ideally, the interaction between the two directives is crucial since more regulations and implementations are being ratified. This creates a platform for achieving the primary goals of the directives. The consistent collaboration between NASA and the US government will enhance more discoveries that form the basis of formulating space exploration strategies.

To meet the exploration goals, the two directives need to work together to ensure that collaboration in enhancing the outcomes of the objectives in space exploration can be achieved in the future. However, there is a need to ensure that well-defined rules for both government and private organizations and companies are laid. This is because the lengthy approval processes have hindered private companies for a long time, as Wall (2018) notes. Easing the processes would further encourage companies’ growth and competitiveness in space exploration programs. This will promote innovation for advanced technologies that will facilitate reaching out to planets and bodies at longer distances within a short period. Therefore, the two policy directives are interdependent, which makes the implementation of each of them easier.
