Discussion – Presentation Planning
Crafting a Story with an Audience in Mind
According to Alley (2003), knowing the audience helps one craft a presentation that is best suited to their needs. Preparing a presentation targeting the internal and external stakeholders of a motor company in advance will help produce a great story. From the outset, I will craft a compelling hook from the start of the presentation. In this case, a statistic showing the company’s fortunes have reduced, including poor sales, low profits, and a reduced number of employees, will build rapport and connect with the audience’s emotions. I will also leverage visual aids such as pictures to present my point. Visual aids showing the growth of other industries that the motor company may potentially explore will maintain audience engagement. I will also stick to a clear objective throughout the presentation, in this case, the need to diversify the company’s business to align with emerging trends, such as the production of electric vehicles.
Illustrating the Story and Staying Relevant
I will use slide shows to illustrate my points and maintain audience engagement. To ensure effective delivery, I will use short lines instead of large paragraphs. Besides, I will use large fonts, easily readable by all members of the audience regardless of where they may be positioned (Alley, 2003). Also, animations will be useful in preventing the audience from being bored in the midst of the presentation (Alley, 2003). Further, I will ensure each data point is accompanied by a detailed explanation in the speaker notes segment so that the audience will know that whatever they are being fed has been well-researched.
To stay relevant throughout the presentation, I will need to know about the audience’s needs. I will prepare a list of the audience present, research their needs, and include data points that may appeal to them. In this case, the overriding concern is for the business to diversify to avoid losing money and clients in a fast-changing business environment. Therefore, I will communicate consumers’ inherent needs and inform managers of the potential solutions to consumers’ pain points.

Discussion – Presentation Planning
Review the Planning a Presentation graphic from the HBR Guide to Persuasive Presentations and think about how you will address each aspect of the presentation-development process. In your initial post, focus on the conceiving and visualizing segments and address the following:
- How are you going to craft your story with your audience in mind?
- How are you going to illustrate your story and stay relevant?
