Fifty years ago, President Nixon forged allyship with China on the grounds that the countries needed to be on friendly terms, and with his perspective that China would become the most powerful nation by the end of the 21st century, he thought America forming allyship with China would be wise. Today, China has become the only country that can overtake America as a superpower (Nye). Many are divided on whether the benefits of Nixon’s decision to visit China and form an allyship with the country outweigh the consequences. Some argue that Nixon gave leeway to China to become the most powerful nation. In addition, being a communist nation, America fears the worst outcome, especially with the fact that China and the USSR are also allies. On the other hand, some argue that America has benefited just as much as China has from their relationship and that America has as much influence in China as the USSR.

Looking at the contemporary world and the fact that China will most likely be the most powerful country soon, do you think the relationship between the two nations will continue or end, and why? Do you think that in the long run, the benefits will outweigh the consequences of the relationship between China and America or vice versa, and do you think China would have been so powerful if it was not for President Nixon? Between Russia and America, which country has more influence in China and why?
