Discussion – Issues in Criminal Justice

What is the most significant thing you have learned in your review of the article regarding collaborative teamwork in criminal justice?

The most important thing I learned from the article about collaborative teamwork in criminal justice is that collaboration contributes to ensuring justice is served by enabling criminal justice personnel to acquire the required resources. This is based on the argument that the criminal justice system cannot independently solve the complex problems of drugs, crime, and disorder in society, hence the need to pull resources from outside the system and come up with ways of reviewing these problems from inside (Rosenbaum,2014). Working in teams, therefore, not only aids in acquiring required resources but also in decision-making when resolving crime problems. This means that the criminal justice system can only function effectively by embracing collaboration not only with members of the criminal justice system but also with those outside the system.

Why is this significant learning important to your role in the group?

The significant learning was important to my role in the group because it helped me mobilize other team members to ensure that the group successfully completed the task assigned to us and ensured that everyone participated in the group by enlightening them about the importance of embracing teamwork. The significant learning was also important because it helped me in effectively delegating responsibilities to the team members to ensure that everyone was part of the group’s success.

How do you plan to use what you’ve learned in your group collaboration to deal with the VBBC in the role you selected?

I plan to use the knowledge I have gathered in my collaboration to deal with the VBBC in the role I selected by selecting the most appropriate people to collaborate with so that I can get the required resources on time and facilitate effective decision-making by exchanging ideas. I also plan to use the knowledge in planning on how to approach other team members to request their help by informing them about the need for collaboration in fighting crime and eliminating the assumption that teams slow down the decision-making process, which, according to Cordon (2019), is among the main assumptions used to discourage teamwork.

Your entire group project is centered around this mindset as each of you represents one facet of “crime fighting” in the scenario about the VBBC. The police can’t do it alone, nor can the courts, the corrections world, etc. It takes a team effort to fight crime, as you might imagine. Collaboration does not work very effectively in many locales (politics, lack of effort, turf protection, etc.)
