Gender gaps remain a significant issue in education. According to Evans et al. (2020), most low- and middle-income countries are far from achieving gender equality in education. The authors depict that the female population in most countries is the most vulnerable to low standards and quality of education. Despite the improvement in the educated women population, their percentage remains relatively low compared to the male-educated population. Gender gaps were attributed to higher levels of the male population enrolled in learning institutions than the girls’ population. According to the study conducted by Evans et al. (2020), gender gaps remain a threat in countries where male education is highly valued, with boys acquiring higher academic levels.

However, the authors state that some countries have achieved higher education levels among women than men. Gender equality in education directly relates to aspects of development, including life expectancy. Also, a correlation exists between the gender gap in education and the labor market. Reduced gender gaps in education promote gender equality in labor force participation, which helps the countries maximize their potential (Evans et al., 2020). The education system should propel gender balance in the learning process—gender balance in the classroom aids in reducing gender gaps, which propels solutions to gender issues. Also, incorporating a balanced learning environment demonstrates the value and respect for all genders and appreciation of their contribution to the country’s development.

Educators should evaluate their students to understand whether they have gender issues. The educators will improve their teaching strategies to foster an inclusive learning atmosphere by avoiding pronouns lenient to one gender. Most importantly, the teachers should use nonbinary pronouns, such as they, their, or them, which are not gender specific.
