The Conway Scholarship provides a big boost to the nursing profession by giving hope to a number of nurses who would not have made it through nursing school without the scholarship. I have always had a goal to be a nurse, and not only a nurse but the best nurse providing care to children and adult patients. However, I once went through a period of hardships that almost forced me to give up on my dream of becoming a nurse, which was a very devastating period and experience. I almost lost all hope in life as well as my future as a nurse. However, I pushed myself to overcome the hardship and ended up getting through nursing school. Overcoming this significant hardship in my life taught me about resilience and proved to me how determined I was to become a nurse.

I currently work in a Children’s Hospital in the NICU as a NICU tech taking care of babies. I have also worked at an adult ICU for 7 years, caring for sick critical adults. I have dreams of furthering my education in nursing to even become a better nurse to children and the adult population. I do not view the Conway Scholarship as only a financial opportunity to further my nursing education but also a lifeline that can awaken my nursing career aspirations that will impact not only my personal life but the lives of others.  The Conway Scholarship will eliminate my financial worries and give me time and peace of mind to commit myself to the desired nursing training and education to achieve my life’s and career goals and aspirations.

I will employ the knowledge I will acquire during my training sponsored by the Conway Sponsorship in a way that benefits me, my patients, and the entire nursing profession both in practice and in education. This is because getting an opportunity to further my nursing education will equip me with new and advanced practice nursing competencies, such as the ability to search for, review, and compile evidence, as well as translate such evidence into nursing practice. This will not only help to improve the quality and safety of care provided in nursing settings but also help reduce costs of care and improve the experiences of both nurses and their patients. It will also inform the education curriculum of future nurses to be readily prepared for practice in the nursing settings of the future, as well as have the competencies to tackle nursing challenges of the future. I, therefore, view the Conway Scholarship financial assistance as a package that will propel me into becoming the nurse I have always dreamt of, as well as an investment in nursing education that benefits both the individual nurses and the entire nursing profession.
