Digital Welcome Letter

Dear Parents,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to a new school year. We are delighted to have the students back from their summer break, hoping that they are ready and motivated to learn new information and form greater social relationships. The students are already settled in and loom, ready to learn. The teachers are also prepared to work as hard as possible to help each and every student to achieve the best possible academic outcomes. We have also created programs in place to ensure that the students develop socially, mentally, and physically during the school year. However, we can only achieve our greatest potential with your assistance. We welcome all parents and guardians to join in helping to develop all students to achieve their best potential.

Learning does not stop in the school environment. Your collaboration in the students’ learning is needed because the family plays an important role in the development of the self-regulated learner in the home environment. The family plays an important role in creating the right environment for the self-regulated learner to achieve their full potential. It is important that students find an environment that promotes their learning when they come home from school (Bywater et al., 2015). For example, the family environment should be peaceful enough to allow the students to focus on their education. The parenting behaviors at home may also affect the ability of the self-regulated learner to achieve their best.  Parenting styles should be those that encourage their autonomy and independence to allow them to learn in ways that they see fit (Pino-Pasternak & Whitebread, 2010). Lastly, the family environment should be supportive and motivating for the students so that they can have the drive to achieve the best they can.

Several strategies can be used to promote independent learning at home. An example is the setting of daily family routines that encourage the learners to spend time on their education. For instance, the parents can set specific times that the students spend doing their homework or revising their learning before they perform other tasks. Another strategy that parents can use is to check and monitor the students’ assignments and projects. The parents’ involvement in the learners’ education is a way of showing support. This strategy encourages the students to work harder because of the support that they get from their parents.

It is important that parents also get actively involved in their children’s learning throughout the year. It is encouraged that they set goals for the learners’ achievement and monitor their performance both at home and in school. Setting goals gives the students a standard that they should work to achieve. By monitoring their performance towards these goals, the parents can help the students to stay on track throughout the academic year.

Lastly, parents are advised to use technological and non-technological resources to help communicate students’ progress. One technological resource that they can use is online assessment tests, which help them monitor and communicate their children’s progress. They can also use school reports to check progress and communicate them with the children. With such assistance, there is a higher chance that the students will achieve the best that they can.
