Dating Preferences

Dating Preferences

Physical attractiveness is among the key things that I would consider as a dating preference. I discovered that I liked masculine men who were rather tall and strong. Most researchers claim that heterosexual females tend to consider physical attractiveness as a predictor of both short-term and long-term mate choices (Woloszyn, Clyde & Corno, 2020). However, I am willing to forego the aspects of masculinity in a partner as I also seek something deeper and more meaningful. I would look for someone I am compatible with, an individual who might not exactly have similar likes and interests as mine, but one who would be willing enough to try them out, and I would also do the same. I also look out for financial capability in a partner. It would be important that both of us are able to provide as this would help me have a sense of security.

I would prefer to have a partner who is within my proximity. According to Hammond, Cheney, and Pearsey (2021), propinquity refers to the geographic closeness that potential mates and dates experience. I would prefer to have a partner who is close by. However, this is also something that I can forego due to the nature of the current world. For instance, there is the possibility of meeting someone that I like online who lives miles away. I have a friend who met her current husband online. My friend was in Kenya, whereas her partner lived in Australia. Having met online, they were able to take their relationship to another level. This always inspires me, and I believe that I can overlook the aspect of propinquity. Lastly, intelligence is another thing that greatly attracts me to a potential dating partner. I would like to hold deep and meaningful conversations and have a partner who can help me make decisions, be aware of various issues around the world, and be emotionally intelligent.
