Course Reflection – Enhancing Nursing Practice Through Multidimensional Care for Diverse Patients

Apply Strategies for Safe, Effective Multidimensional Nursing Practice When Providing Care for Clients with Neurological Disorders.

This course has been educative in almost all ways of delivering nursing care, especially when managing patients with neurological disorders. I now understand that care delivered to such patients needs to focus on more than one aspect of the patient. For instance, I now understand that for such patients, I should put together a team that can provide the patient with care focused on meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual, as well as developmental needs.

Outline Appropriate Nursing Strategies for Providing Care to Perioperative Clients.

My care skills have gradually improved, and providing care to perioperative clients is one of the new skills I have learned. Pain management is a challenge in post-operative settings, especially with the use of high-addictive opioids (Azar, 2023). I have gained skills on how to ready the clients for surgery, help them get through it, and recover with minimum pain experiences and the least risk of addiction.

Compare Nursing Interventions for Clients with Complex Disorders.

Managing patients with complex disorders always seemed like a big challenge to me. However, throughout this course and practicum, I have understood how to diagnose complex disorders and consider individual patient factors such as their genetics and gender to design care plans that include both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to care for such clients.

Identify Strategies for Safe Nursing Practice of the Client with Multi-System Organ Failure.

Cases of multi-system organ failure sometimes require caring for patients without any data or guidelines for care (Dickinson & Garg, 2019). The course content and learning experiences have helped me understand that it requires not only my knowledge but also a team with members with varied specialties to be able to manage such cases.

Prioritize Nursing Interventions for Clients with Medical Emergencies.

Emergency triage requires dynamic and complex decision-making (Ghanbari et al., 2019). The course content has provided evidence-based knowledge that I can apply during emergency medical calls to determine the priority by which nursing interventions will be delivered to patients.

Summarize the Nurse’s Role and Care Strategies for Clients during Disasters.

The nurse is always the frontline caregiver. Nurses are the first to respond to patients during disasters. Therefore, the care strategies nurses employ are vital in determining the recovery of the affected individuals during disasters as well as maintaining the functioning of the health systems during disasters.

How this New Knowledge will Impact My Nursing Practice

The new knowledge gained from this course has significantly improved my nursing skills and will continually guide my future practice. For instance, the new knowledge on how to apply safe, effective multidimensional nursing practice to patients with neurological disorders, caring for patients with multi-organ system failure, or caring for patients during disasters and health emergencies; such knowledge will help me remain calm and deliver quality care regardless of the pressure on the care delivery environment.
