Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility

Many forces shape the relationship between business and society. The two I chose to focus on are ethical values and technology. Businesses now more than ever have to look at their corporate social responsibility (CSR), which “refers to voluntary actions taken by firms that are designed to improve social or environmental conditions” (Hammond & Christensen, 2016, ch. 1.1, para. 2). This is specifically important when it comes to a company’s ethical values. Our assignment writing help is at affordable prices to students of all academic levels and academic disciplines.

Consumers seek companies with ethical conduct that aligns with society’s standards. For example, child labour, consumer safety, tax evasion, not meeting minimum wage, and labour exploitation are all unethical by nature. Companies who actively practice these are not seen as companies in line with societal standards and will affect the business’s and society’s relationship. The standards that society has set for ethical values mean that businesses must work to align with these standards to succeed. An example of ethical values would be the company IBM, named the World’s Most Ethical Company for the second year. This award distinguishes companies that influence the business community and societies worldwide to drive positive change and highlights companies working with partners and clients to do the right thing by operating with integrity every day. IBM has been known for their integrity and promotion of their values through work with sustainable solutions, an inclusive and diverse workforce and advocating for public policies in line with their values. “This is why in the connected world of the 21st century, ethical behaviour is both the right thing to do and the best business approach’ (Forbes, 2010, para. 10).

Another force that shapes the relationship between business and society is technology. “Technology is accelerating its ability to help businesses do more with less and provide better results. Artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and the Internet of things (IoT), work together to create programs that businesses can use to decrease time from product idea to product creation and product creation to customer delivery” (Wilburn & Wilburn, 2018, p. 23, para. 2).

Technology is the new milestone of the business process and how we as a society connect daily. The needs of society can now be filled easier and more efficiently with new technology. How businesses use that technology to be socially responsible allows them to have better customer relationships.
