Contributions and Reflections
Over the past six weeks, my engagement in our scholarly community has been both enriching and transformative. Throughout this journey, I actively participated in discussions, provided thoughtful peer feedback, and continuously refined my writing through the MEAL plan structure. My contributions were grounded in fostering a collaborative learning environment where constructive feedback could enhance the work of others while also refining my scholarly voice. For instance, in Week 4, my feedback on the importance of personalized feedback in online learning, supported by Gredler (2018), aimed to emphasize how aligning feedback with learner preferences enhances motivation and engagement: Contributions and Reflections.
Similarly, my replies to peer discussions incorporated elements of consistently using such transitions as well as the logical sequence of ideas, as recommended by the Writing Center at Walden University (2017). It not only helped me clarify great information regarding writing techniques when working on my paper, but also helped grow our class’s knowledge as a whole. Moreover, the discussions promoted the idea of shoptalk, which helped enhance our understanding of scholarly writing and make it a collective activity.
Reflecting on my growth, one of the most significant skills I developed is the ability to integrate evidence seamlessly with analysis, a critical element in academic writing. This was evident in my evolution from early drafts to the final version, where feedback from peers and instructors helped me achieve greater clarity and coherence. One more skill that was highly beneficial and developed through the process of refinement was the use of clear language when rehearsing an example idea (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). I also quickly noted that my feedback journal enabled me to identify recurring problems, such as sentence construction, which I addressed through constant scrutiny.
As I progress in my academic journey, I intend to leverage these refined writing skills in future courses. Applying the MEAL plan structure will help maintain clarity in my arguments, while continuous self-reflection through tools like the Feedback Journal will ensure ongoing improvement. Furthermore, techniques like peer review as well as revision will continue to be part of my academic practice. Through regular writing that involves reflection and peer review, I will ensure that I uphold the course’s standards.
