Unit healthcare informatics
The emergency room uses healthcare informatics to compile data on emergency patients, starting when they arrive at the hospital. Besides, they help track triage, practitioner consultations, lab tests, and patient discharge. Additionally, they are used to retrieve patient data from other healthcare providers, enhance evidence-based care for complex cases, and replace time-consuming, document-based procedures for ordering tests and medications with electronic ones.
Type of information, knowledge, and data from healthcare informatics
The emergency room obtains electronic medical records (EMRs), patient portals, and various data reporting systems. Health informatics helps collect patients’ clinical data, including their laboratory results and medical records of the patients (Walker et al., 2021). Besides for example, we use EMRs for the diagnosis and treatment of patients and access notes and data gathered by and for the physicians at the emergency department.
Unit Hardware
The emergency department uses the USB, core, and storage EPIC hardware. Epic Core is a wholly functioning micro that only needs a transmitter and power supply. Epic USB allows automated source choice, reprogramming, and lithium and alkaline battery inputs (Virdee et al., 2022). Epic Storage offers four different ash stores with varying reading, writing, and erasing capabilities in the system memory.
Unit software
Our emergency department uses Epic Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software. The software helps to retain a patient’s medical records (Virdee et al., 2022). The program also offers patients access to their medical records and is a big help in providing information fast and accurately when required at crucial moments in the emergency room.
Facility intranet
The facility has an intranet. It is used Because it has a Personnel Directory that lists all of the administration staff, physicians, nurses, attendants, and admission staff in one accessible online spot; it boosts employee communication. Additionally, it provides a tagging tool to quickly look up employees marked with particular traits or skills. By incorporating applications that offer employee training, online tests and surveys, and medical fundraising sites, it is also employed to enhance patient care. Additionally, the intranet provides a central area where all relevant paperwork and papers are accessible, speeding up the care delivery process and improving patient satisfaction. Lastly, it offers organized administrative sites into several hospital rooms, including those for neurology, obstetrics, pediatrics, palliative care, and more (Walker et al., 2021). Each website includes a unique home screen, menu access, webpages, and applications created primarily to satisfy the requirements of that unit or ward.
Use of electronic documentation
The emergency room where I work uses electric documentation to Upload patients’ medical history, diagnoses, prescription drugs, treatment schedules, dates of vaccinations, allergy reactions, diagnostic images, and laboratory and diagnostic testing. Additionally, it is used to obtain the evidence-based technologies we employ to decide how to treat a patient. Additionally, we utilize it to streamline and automate practitioner workflow. Additionally, we use it to exchange data with other healthcare providers and departments, including labs, specialists, diagnostic centers, pharmacies, and clinics in the facility.
Type of standardized technology
In my practice, I use Picture Vendor-Neutral Archives (VNAs) and Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) standardized technologies. They support the processing and archiving of patients’ health images (Virdee et al., 2022). Besides, they incorporate radiography into a clinic’s routine workflow; these technologies are a crucial subset of healthcare information technology.
