Comprehensive Project Plan

Comprehensive Project Plan

Project planning is a hectic process that often takes significant time and different sets of resources to execute to completion. A project plan explains the project deliverables’ cost, scope, and schedule. Project planning includes elaborating on the activities that need to be executed, the types of resources required, the human and financial resources, and the location where they would be executed. In this case, Gloomdecor LLC looks forward to implementing an information technology project plan within the next three months. The company looks forward to completing this plan while anticipating relocating to a new facility. Gloomdecor operates under venture capital funds obtained from well-wishers in different parts of the world as a startup firm. This comprehensive project plan report outlines the project’s goal and objectives and elaborates on the hardware and software components, infrastructure design, and project implementation.

Project’s Goals and Objectives

The primary goal of this project is to reduce the number of hours employees spend within the organization’s premises by encouraging work-from-home plans. The successful implementation of this project would mean that employees of Gloomdecor LLC can now work even when they are not physically situated within the organization’s premises. Furthermore, they can perform work functions on weekends or even holidays in the comfort of their homes. This flexibility will give employees enough time to relax and unwind, replenishing the energy lost throughout the week. Furthermore, sufficient time to relax after a whole week of working would enable employees to maintain a happy mood during working days and engage with their colleagues within the premises.

The Scope of the Project

The project would cover various areas, including but not limited to applications, process reengineering, testing, architecture, interfaces, and funding. An example of an application that will be included in the implementation of the project consists of workplace sign-in software. The workplace sign-in software would guarantee maximum transparency and accountability concerning employees’ reporting time and availability when they leave the organization’s premises. Also, the communication software would be installed as part of this project to foster effective communication among employees. On the other hand, process reengineering would enable the management team to distinguish fundamental processes from superficial ones and develop a vision of where the organization needs to go. The testing aspect would be gauging whether employees can work under minimal supervision by implementing flexible hours week and work-from-home Wednesday.

Under the architecture component, a team of employees would be developed to work on the project based on their skills, knowledge, abilities, and talents. The interfaces outline various types, such as operational, tactical, strategic, and comprehensive. Lastly, on the funding issue, the project would be sponsored with venture funds from donors and well-wishers convinced that our course is extensively beneficial to humankind.

 Major Hardware and Software Components of Gloomdecor LLC

Developing and implementing an e-commerce website is highly beneficial to the organization as it enables customers to compare, choose, and purchase many available products. However, these benefits can only be attained when the website meets the following hardware and software requirements;

Hardware Components for Gloomdecor LLC

As an essential segment of the e-commerce website, the hardware components provide an appropriate environment for storing software components. The hardware components are as enumerated below;

  1. External Hard Drive

The external hard drive is essential, especially in the current generation, where technology keeps evolving rapidly. This component is necessary as it aids organizations in storing and retrieving confidential information. Possessing a few hard drives would enable Gloomdecor LLC to enhance the accessibility of personal information when the system’s network is slow; also, in the unlikely event that the laptops crash, the company can easily access confidential data without incurring costs (Saona et al., 2021).

  1. Network Server

Network servers are also critical hardware components as they provide fast and easy speeds of access to the organization’s databases. The network server will allow Gloomdecor LLC to enjoy ample storage space and increased confidentiality. Gloomdecor LLC’s space requirement, security, and available options for the backup will dictate the kind of network server that can be utilized (Saona et al., 2021).

  1. Desktop/Laptop Computer

In today’s world, households currently possess at least one computer for work-related activities or recreational purposes. The organization should ensure that it invests in laptops/computers that are durable but also practical and efficient laptops in performing various functions. Based on the specifications of each department, Gloomdecor LLC would necessitate the purchase of appropriate sets of computers that can guarantee the adequate flow of services and products to the end consumer.

  1. Mobile Device

Mobile devices are also necessary for running various functions, just like laptops are essential. These mobile devices enable employees at Gloomdecor to make professional calls to clients to schedule orders or provide important information regarding the order in transit (Saona et al., 2021). Therefore, installing a mobile device within the premises to foster order and professionalism within the organization is extremely important. Gloomdecor can consider purchasing mobile devices from companies such as LG X, Apple iPad, iPhone, or Samsung Galaxy.

Software Components for Gloomdecor LLC

The primary component of an e-commerce website is the software that fosters the functionality component of the website. The nature of software components determines the efficiency and effectiveness of customers purchasing goods from Gloomdecor using the online platform. Some of the software components are explained below;

  1. Web Hosting Service

This service is mainly provided by organizations commonly referred to as service providers. Gloomdecor LLC requires this service for the efficient functioning of the e-commerce website. Allocating a third party in charge of the hosting web service for the organization goes a long way in ensuring timely accessibility of confidential information due to faster loading of the servers, reducing customers’ waiting time concerning order fulfillment (Singh et al., 2021).

  1. Catalog Display

A catalog refers to a list of services and goods an organization sells. Gloomdecor LLC has a catalog display to enable its customers to identify the products through observation quickly. Gloomdecor LLC would be composed of an online catalog of products, pages, and information relating to the features and benefits of the products (Singh et al., 2021). The broad categories of the catalogs that Gloomdecor LLC would maintain would be;

  1. Static Catalog- it presents a simple list of goods and services available by the organization.
  2. Dynamic Catalog– avails comprehensive features of the items currently on the organization’s shelf in clear descriptions, outlining the location of the buyer, the quantity yet to be supplied, and the time of arrival of the shipment (Singh et al., 2021).

Design of Logical and Physical Layout of Gloomdecor LLC Information Systems

The volume sales of the product portfolio can only be attained by ensuring that the e-commerce website is straightforward and coherent for use. The simplicity aspect should be such that a novice user can easily access the website and navigate without many problems. On the contrary, coherence entails the organization selling its products with the right feel and look. The right look will attract prospective consumers to purchase Gloomdecor LLC’s product portfolio. Therefore, meeting the logical and physical layout of the e-commerce website will enable the company to meet its operational needs, as elaborated below;

The Logical Layout of E-commerce Website

The logical layout dictates the logical data structures required to keep the organization’s information system up. The rational design necessitates the implementation of the e-commerce website by ensuring that the database meets the minimum requirements for effectively executing the business functions of Gloomdecor LLC. A flawed logical design layout may compel the organization to spend more on data collection and storage as it may be required to outsource these services to third-party providers. Despite various categories of logical design, Gloomdecor LLC considered utilizing the rational system design. The following are the steps that would be followed in the creation of the logical layout of Gloomdecor LLC’s e-commerce website;

Definition of Management Functions: This stage would entail stating the system’s essential tasks and respective partitioning. In this context, partitioning is the segmentation of elementary management functions to allow each deliverable to be effectively executed. How these partitions are done goes a long way in influencing the various forms of alternatives present for Gloomdecor LLC. A high degree of partitioning produces decentralized management functions that may indicate a simple way of doing things (“Packtpublishing,” 2018). Conversely, a low degree of segmentation demonstrates that the organization has a centralized mode of governance that requires complex coordination of tools and information.

Management Function Analysis: This stage will call upon IT professionals’ skills and knowledge in elaborating how each function would be executed. Different methods may be adopted based on the type of function being considered for execution. Operation planning may call upon IT professionals to use a simple experience-based form. Furthermore, computers can offer support levels for the other alternatives that may be considered for implementation (“Packtpublishing,” 2018). However, in a highly partitioned structure, models cannot be used.

Management Function Evaluation: This phase selects a network of alternatives. In many instances, the choice is economical in the sense that IT experts take into consideration both the social and physical costs. For example, the organization may settle for a network that fosters attaining the highest present value of net returns.

Procedure Specification: An in-depth evaluation of the layout is done at this stage, which includes but is not limited to the performance of each function, the input and output of every process, the information flow, and the general layout of the e-commerce information system (“Packtpublishing,” 2018). This phase acts as a continuation of the previous one as it provides documentation for administrative procedures.

Requirements Specification over the Interior: As the last phase of the layout design, this stage entails formalizing the functions that constitute the interior side of the system. Some critical information in this stage includes the specifications that enumerate how the output should be produced and details regarding the inputs that outline the interiors, data derivation, and processing rules. This is important as it directly responds to the data processing phase.

The Physical Layout of E-Commerce Website

The physical layout assigns each fixed shape and fabrication layer spatial locations for routing connectivity. As such, physical design directly impacts the area, reliability, and manufacturing yield segments of Gloomdecor LLC’s information system. Regarding location, placing the modules far apart results in slower chips, while an enormous number of modules increases the reliability of the circuit in use. Based on the complexity of the information system to be implemented within Gloomdecor LLC, the following steps will be adhered to;

  1. Create a Gate-Level Netlist- A netlist is the core component in the physical design that arrives at the synthesis process’s outcome. The synthesis process can translate the RTL design into gate-level specifications that the other tools within the physical design structure can understand (Soegoto et al., 2018).
  2. Partitioning is an essential phase because it segments the chip into separate chunks. This process differentiates the distinct functional blocks and facilitates the routing procedures. As such, partitioning gives the design engineer sufficient time to handle other aspects of the design process related to information system infrastructure (Soegoto et al., 2018).
  3. Floorplanning- While engineers calculate and effectively place each block at an appropriate spot on the chip, floorplanning ensures that highly connected blocks remain close.
  4. Placement- This step encompasses placing standard cells inside the core boundary of an optimal location. The sequence occurs so the design has minimal congestion, guaranteeing the best timing. Each PnR tool avails different commands that permit users to adjust the creation of the information system concerning timing, area, power, and congestion specifications (Soegoto et al., 2018). Also, this stage ensures that physical cells are placed in such a way that they meet DRV, timings, and foundry specifications.
  5. Static Time Analysis- This method entails evaluating the timing performance of a design by checking the presence of timing violations on data traveling paths. This is possible because static time analysis (STA) breaks down the layout into timing paths, calculates the signal propagation delay along the trail’s data, and checks for any violations in the input and output interface (Soegoto et al., 2018). Even though dynamic simulation can be used for timing analysis, static timing analysis has proven to be faster and more efficient.
  6. Clock Tree Synthesis- This step reduces skewness and insertion delay. Therefore, it necessitates sequential clock distribution to all the design elements.
  7. Routing- This establishes a connection between cells and the blocks. The two common types of routing are global routing and detailed routing. Detailed routing makes connections, while global routing connects networks of different geographical locations.
  8. Physical Verification- This entails verifying the authenticity of the layout by ensuring that it includes all the technological prerequisites, density verification, and cleaning density.

Client-Server Model

The client-server model breaks down existing workloads between clients and servers on a single system or connected through a computer network. The client-server model comprises database servers, general-purpose servers, and many clients (Oluwatosin, 2014). The model below only shows the significant components for faster understanding instead of indicating the hubs and routers deemed negligible parts of the information system.

Figure 1. Client Server Architecture

A client-server model will be utilized within Gloomdecor LLC to transfer information from a server to a set of digital devices within the workplace. The data for this organization will be stored in the database servers. Therefore, clients must access specific information from the database servers while the general-purpose servers notify the database servers of the type of information to be delivered (Oluwatosin, 2014). Upon verification of the client’s credentials, the requested information can be downloaded on the devices used by the respective client. Therefore, multiple clients can access similar or different files from the database server simultaneously during the specified working hours (Oluwatosin, 2014). This is important as it aids in building consistency across all devices used by Gloomdecor LLC employees.

Conclusion

The comprehensive project plan above captured most of the critical segments of the previous four assignments. The program began with an introduction that elaborated on the various aspects of project planning that should be implemented to succeed. It then elaborated on the project goals and objectives, followed by the scope and the business requirements. The requirements comprised both functional and non-functional requirements. The cost estimates of the project then followed. The remaining bit elaborates on the hardware and software components and logical and physical designs. The last segment was the client-server model that diagrammatically elaborated the retrieval of information from the server by the clients, now employees in different organization departments.

Overview
This is the fifth and final course project deliverable in the series of five sequential assignments in this course. You continue as the CTO of your design’s hypothetical e-commerce startup company.
Throughout the course, you have been working on delivering an information technology project plan anticipating the company’s relocation to a new facility.

Comprehensive Project Plan

Comprehensive Project Plan

In the first-course project deliverable, you created a project plan inception document and supported the Gantt chart.
In the second-course project deliverable, you developed the business requirements to be incorporated into the information systems design you are creating. You also updated your original supporting Gantt chart based on major and minor tasks identified in the business requirements document.
In the third-course project deliverable, you created an infrastructure design considering the key elements of software, hardware, security, and business process flow for your e-commerce startup company. Once again, you updated the supporting Gantt chart based on the major and minor tasks identified in the infrastructure design document.
In the fourth-course project deliverable, you developed the system implementation document. This document spelled out the EFI technical aspects of your e-commerce company’s information systems infrastructure. Again, you updated the supporting Gantt chart to reflect the major and minor tasks identified in the system implementation document.

You are now in the final stage of the project plan development. You will leverage and integrate all previous deliverables into one document serving as the project’s statement of work.
Your goal is for the startup company’s executive team and the venture capital group to approve and fund your project. A detailed project plan is necessary to accomplish the monumental implementation task. However, the executive team and investors are only interested in an executive summary in a PowerPoint presentation with 10–15 slides. As a result, you must create a compelling PowerPoint presentation, supported by the detail in your project plan, which convinces the executive group that your solution is optimal.
This assignment consists of three parts:
Part 1: Comprehensive Project Plan
You will create an 8–10 page final comprehensive project plan. This document will distill down the most salient points from each of the four previous course deliverables into one integrated, cohesive, comprehensive project plan that persuades investors of the recommended approach.

Summarize the information you selected.
Ensure that the selected information flows from one section to the next cohesively and compellingly.

Part 2: Executive Presentation
You will create a compelling 10–15 slide executive presentation that convinces the startup company’s executive team and potential investors to invest in the company. Your recommended solution is the one that can grow this 5 million dollar e-commerce startup company into a 30 million dollar company within the next two years.
Part 3: Updated Final Gantt Chart
You will use Microsoft Project to update the supporting project Gantt chart begun in your first-course project deliverable.

You are not creating a new Gantt chart; you are only updating the one you made in the previous assignment to produce the final project Gantt chart to include all major and minor tasks necessary to execute the project.

Note:

You must create or assume all necessary assumptions to complete this assignment successfully.
You must submit all three parts as separate files to the assignment area. Label each file name according to the appropriate part.
