Competencies Developed in Researching and Writing the Course Comprehensive Project
Since I already have businesses in a foreign country, the Philippines, these lessons have reinforced what I needed to know to maintain and expand my businesses. I have been dealing with the city, waiting for my final permit to be processed. COVID-19 is taking its toll on my business. I had the final inspection two months ago, but they have not stamped the paperwork. Initially, the whole process was supposed to be completed by December 2020. This business’s current monthly expenses are $1000.00 per month, and the loss of revenue is $1800.00 per month. Another one of my businesses was that I purchased a franchise from Remitly. This business is a money exchange similar to Western Union. My customers are usually from the United States and the Philippines. I make money from a set service charge for each transaction. Since I do much business in the Philippines, I can use this service without paying service charges. I also use an international bank. I applied online but had to call to set up an account. I also have a call centre, an insurance company, an internet café, and a grocery store.

A shareholder owns a financial share in a company; their form of ownership is equity stock. Stock is either purchased from the company or public offerings from a secondary market. Shareholders are concerned with profits and wealth maximization. When the stock has capital and dividend appreciation, that means the stock goes up in value. Shareholders do not have an impact/fluence but are only affected by the outcome. The only concern is profit, profit, profit.
Stakeholders are anyone affected by what happens in the company, including employees, customers, creditors, and suppliers. Stakeholders directly or indirectly have an interest in the company. Stakeholders’ impact and influence have a direct result on the performance of the company.
Since shareholders tend to be the main controllers of the company’s focus, the company is in the dilemma of prioritising the shareholder or the stakeholder. Stakeholders have long-term goals and want to incur expenditures that increase their value but are not interested in short goals. A good priority shift is that companies have increased stakeholder value towards corporate social responsibilities (CSR).
