Classroom Management

Classroom Management

The practicum session was a good foundation for building and improving my classroom management strategies. The experience was indeed motivating but also challenging. Through the practicum, it was clear that classroom management is vital in any learning set-up, and classroom management cannot be successful without proper and appropriate planning. Without a good plan, the entire class would be disorganized, and the teaching process would be unsmooth. Therefore, the practicum taught me to focus on proper planning to achieve appropriate classroom management. In addition, I learned that effective classroom management develops and sustains an orderly atmosphere in the classroom. Therefore, classroom management increases meaningful academic learning and enables emotional and social development in children (Machado and Helen 188). Most importantly, classroom management reduces negative behaviors and increases educational engagement time. When the teacher correctly manages a classroom, there are minimal disruptive behaviors because children are more active and concentrate more on learning, improving learning and engagement between the teacher and the learners.

The experience from the practicum taught me that in the classroom management plan, I should ensure I plan appropriately before the classes begin so that I have set objectives and clear expectations for the course. Most importantly, having a plan for conducting the course will help in proper classroom management. Besides, Machado and Helen (2010) insist that planning is the backbone of successful instruction. In addition, I learned that I should always remain positive about the learners and the class for easy classroom management. In addition, I knew I should implement different reinforcement techniques to correct or discipline the learners who engage in disruptive behaviors during the lesson. What I would not do in my classroom plan is give learners too much authority and freedom. Providing learners with such control could disrupt the classroom environment and overwhelm the teacher. Secondly, in my classroom management plan, I will never go to class unprepared for the lessons because it causes a lack of confidence and focus in the lesson. The lack of confidence makes learners not buy or take the instructor’s teaching seriously.
