Christian Purpose for Schooling
In my religious sense, I feel that the purpose of schooling would be to gain understanding, as is said in Proverbs 4:7. It is the process in which key concepts are taught to aid students in being equipped to enter society. Besides meeting math and language arts standards, students should be taught and exposed to more to gain more social and emotional experiences. Students should also be given drama, finances, and technical skills. All of which will help them in the future. I see both sides of the spectrum of having religion in school and not having religion in school. I believe that aligns with Essentialism, in which educators are to equip their students with the knowledge they need to succeed (Webb & Metha, 2017).

Question
In “Work or Love? A Christian Evaluation of John Dewey’s Views on the Purpose of Schooling,” Cimpean states:
Christian Purpose for Schooling
Dewey rejects the Christian purpose of schooling: serving and loving God. When evaluated from a Christian perspective, Dewey’s progressivism falls short due to its refusal to promote the Christian ideal of serving and loving God. Dewey’s purpose for schooling is to promote a democratic state.
In your opinion, what should be the purpose of schooling?
