Christian Motivation for Excellence in Writing
Ways That One’s Christian Faith Motivates Him or Her Toward Excellence in Writing
Christians are called to embody their religion in all that they do, including their literary activities, as they strive for perfection. The idea that all abilities are gifts from God is one way that the Christian faith inspires people to write to the highest standards. It is the responsibility of Christians to manage these gifts as best they can. As such, in terms of writing, this viewpoint encourages a sense of accountability to provide work that is both technically sound and compliant with moral and ethical standards.
Another facet of the Christian religion that encourages people to write with brilliance is the focus on honesty and integrity. Christians are expected to lead moral lives free from dishonest behavior as indicated in the bible that to do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice (King James Bible, 1769/2008, Prov. 21:3). This idea discourages plagiarism, which has a direct effect on writing. Christian authors are aware that plagiarism is against academic integrity and their moral principles, as well as when they offer someone else’s writing as their own. Christian authors are driven by a dedication to integrity and create unique, genuine content while giving credit where credit is due.
The Christian faith further advances the notion that an individual’s attention to detail is a reflection of their dedication to perfection. Christians believe in a God who is intricately involved in every aspect of creation, down to the smallest detail (McDowell & McDowell, 2024). This idea emphasizes the value of being diligent and hardworking in all of one’s endeavors, including writing. The knowledge that each word, sentence, and concept in their writing adds to the overall effect and potency of their message inspires Christian writers. This focus on detail stems from a Christian desire to glorify God by using their God-given abilities responsibly rather than just striving for excellence for its own purpose.
